SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, provides daily management over the central document preparation operations for schools, along with the copier repair team for the large-volume high-speed copiers system-wide. Work of this class includes receiving printing service orders and copier repair service requests from schools and offices, scheduling hourly labor duties associated with meeting service requests, and maintaining an automated daily work order tracking and reporting system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge standards of a Printing Equipment Operator II required. In-depth knowledge of the digital imaging, document duplication, and finishing mechanisms associated with large, high-volume copier equipment, along with a working knowledge of the development and upkeep of automated job file software. Experience and proven skills in the daily management, scheduling, and coordination of an hourly workforce of 5 to 10 employees required. Knowledge of standard modern office practices and procedures. Ability to determine best method and materials to apply to a work request to achieve desired results in a timely and economical manner; ability to direct and coordinate the efforts of subordinates; ability to instruct subordinates in the proper use and maintenance of print shop equipment; ability to forecast supply and materials needs and take necessary action to maintain adequate stock levels. Skill in the proficient use and operation of machines and equipment of the trade. Excellent human relations and communications skills. Knowledge and application of the MCPS Professional Growth Systems (PGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. College-level coursework in transportation, management, or other related field preferred. Formal training course credentials in technical systems operations/maintenance. Minimum five years recent professional experience in digital copier and/or industrial printing operations, and three years recent experience in daily management of printing service operations work group. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Class C motor vehicle license with less than 3 demerit points, or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) The following physical capabilities are required: move heavy objects (up to 40lbs); sustained repetitive arm, waist and leg motions, ability to stand for extended periods and the ability to hear and see moving equipment components. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Devise, communicate and monitor daily work schedule(s) for work group employees.

2. Communicate, monitor, and report quality-assurance and production performance measures for work group employees.

3. Field phone inquiries from school-based and central services staff seeking an immediate solution for problems associated with document preparation needs.

4. Investigate, identify, and pursue contractual services, vendor support, and OT/TPT labor needed to solve printing equipment problems and peak demand requirements for document preparation services.

5. Modify FileMaker Pro applications associated with the work group's daily work order processing and reporting system.

6. Contribute potential strategies, plans and actions associated with the school system's document preparation needs.

7. Maintains effective stock levels for supplies and materials, ordering replacements as - necessary.

8. Orders special stock items as needed. Insures proper records-keeping concerning shop production.

9. Plans individual and section work assignments for smooth and timely handling of peak loads or rush jobs, reassigning priorities and personnel as needed.

10. Periodically inspects and evaluates production during various stages of completion to assure constant high quality of shop work.

11. Trains newly assigned or reassigned employees in the operation of appropriate print shop equipment.

12. Plans and manages an ongoing safety program that complies with OSHA and MOSHA standards.

13. Makes periodic safety inspections of shop environment, staff work habits, hazardous materials and waste.

14. Maintains files of material safety data sheets in accordance with the right to know laws and keeps occupational injury and illness records required to complete an annual injury report.

15. May operate print shop equipment common to all phases of shop activity.

16. Performs related work as required.
