Instructional Specialist, In-District Instructor

WORKING TITLE: Instructional Specialist, In-District Instructor GRADE: BD MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Summary Description: Under direction, assists the director of the Skillful Teaching and Leading (STL) team in planning and implementing the STL courses. Through training and professional development, the instructional specialist provides supports to staff related to system-wide goals, priorities and initiatives. The specialist plans, develops, and implements opportunities related to the STL courses including, but not limited to effective curriculum planning, motivating and engaging students, managing a positive learning environment, matching instructional strategies to best meet the needs of all students. The specialist performs a wide variety of professional development roles, including, but not limited to: trainer, coach, consultant, adjunct professor, resource provider, facilitator, project manager. Physical Demands: Must be able to move materials/equipment to and from different training sites. Special Requirements: Frequent need to shift schedule to accommodate training after hours and on weekends. May be required to attend evening Board of Education meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: Understands and demonstrates highly effective instructional strategies; knowledge of MCPS curriculum and various forms of assessment, including analysis of data; experience planning, delivering, and monitoring both face-to-face and online professional development for adults; strong and engaging skills as trainer, facilitator, and coach; interest in and ability to work collaboratively on a high performing team. This position requires the knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Education Training Experience:Master^s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on teaching, curriculum, and/or instruction; minimum seven years successful teacher level experience; Extensive outstanding experience as a classroom teacher; demonstrated leadership in equity, supporting teachers, the school improvement process, and/or system goals and initiatives; experience in planning and delivering staff development for adult learners; excellent human relations skills. Completion of SST1 or OAT1. Certified to teach SST1 or OAT1.Certificate License:Holds a current Maryland state standard and advanced professional certificate in a teaching area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Example Duties:1. Plans and conducts STL coursework. 2. Gives feedback and evaluates writing requirements of STL participants. 3. Project management, including developing time lines, organizing logistics, and assembling materials for training 4. Facilitation of problem-solving/decision-making 5. Performs related work and other duties as required.
