SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Director of the Department of PreK-12 Curriculum, collaborates with school principals, staff development teachers, classroom teachers, and supporting staff to deliver professional development and coaching to create a culturally relevant and inclusive environment for all students. Integrates inclusive instructional practices and provides ongoing coaching and support to schools in the Creating a Welcoming and Inclusive Environment for LGBTQ+ Students professional development cohort. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies professional development plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Serves as a resource, support, and advocate in support of LGBTQ+ students, staff, and their families by working closely with administrators, school staff, students, families, and community partners in support of student achievement and well-being. Provides professional learning on anti biased, antiracist instructional approaches. Facilitates the development of a comprehensive plan for increased inclusivity and representation in curricular resources, as well as supporting and promoting its implementation. This is a 12-month, grant funded position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of current research on LGBTQ+ student needs and best practices for anti biased, antiracist instruction, inclusion and equity. Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, techniques for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, adult learner theory, MCPS policies, and effective professional development practices. Understanding of the teaching/learning process. Ability to provide professional development that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents and community. Ability to exercise independent initiative to complete assignments. Excellent oral and written communication skills; positive human relations skills; strong problem-solving skills. Ability to plan, lead and support training activities. Ability to plan and implement workshops, adult learning and professional development opportunities for small and large groups. Demonstrated skill as an effective mentor to administrators, teachers, and student leaders.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree or equivalent with a Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. Minimum three years successful experience as a teacher or administrator required. Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating programs, and planning and conducting training and/or professional development. Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and coaching administrators, teachers, and student leaders. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Holds a current Maryland state standard and advanced professional certificate in a teaching area or Administrator I.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. Facilitates and supports implementation of strategies that are data driven and research based for accelerating academic achievement and promoting the social-emotional well-being of LGBTQIA+ students.

Serves as lead support for a group of schools in their implementation process for the LGBTQ+ Inclusive Environment program in cohort schools.
Facilitates and supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan for increased inclusivity and representation in curricular resources
Provides ongoing coaching to cohort schools to assist with staff training and effective implementation of best practices for an inclusive environment in school and classroom.
Helps to design and lead professional learning opportunities for principals and school leadership teams to foster change in adult practice and implementation of best practices for inclusivity.
Collaborates with school-based administrators, teachers, students, families, community partners, organizations, and government agencies to engage LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and families in leadership and college and career opportunities.

Collaborates with the MCPS PRIDE ALLiance to coordinate system wide events such as the Pride Town Hall.

Collaborates with the Compliance Unit to support school GSAs and Rainbow Clubs.

Provides professional learning to Central Office and school-based staff around issues important to LGBTQIA+ student success.

Collaborates with community-based organizations, agencies of county government and other partners in implementation of the continuum of restorative practices.
Coordinates, facilitates and supports school personnel in data collection, assessment, and analysis of formal and informal data points for use in targeting and monitoring the effectiveness of the LGBTQ+ Inclusive Environment program in cohort schools.

Educates parents, students, and community stakeholder groups on student achievement and mental health related to LGBTQIA+ students and their families.

Informs internal and external MCPS stakeholders on current trends in education related to the safety and well-being of LGBTQIA+ students in collaboration with other student services staff.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, MCPS policy and administrative regulation.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
