SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, collaborates with team members, school staff, and stakeholders to integrate curriculum and professional development resources in a web-based environment. Supports implementation of the Elementary Integrated Curriculum (EIC) by developing a collaborative, interactive online learning community. Provides direct support to schools on a regular basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Combination of expertise in multiple areas. Thorough knowledge of MCPS elementary curriculum and effective instructional practices for all types of learners. Knowledge of MCPS Strategic Plan goals, state and national standards. Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning, effective differentiation, equitable practices, and the role of culturally relevant curriculum development and implementation. Ability to use web and video technology to present information and encourage collaboration and effective instruction. Ability to successfully collaborate with staff, parents and students to reach instructional goals. Ability to analyze formal and informal assessment data to determine instructional needs in areas of content expertise. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree or equivalency, with courses in curriculum development, specialization in content areas represented in the EIC, assessment/evaluation, administration and supervision, staff development, or accelerated and enriched instruction. Five years experience as an outstanding classroom teacher, especially elementary. School-based instructional leadership desirable. Successful experience developing and supporting curriculum implementation or developing, coordinating and conducting online professional development and parent outreach activities.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland State certification requirements as an elementary or middle school teacher, reading specialist, or any of the certification areas in the Elementary Integrated Curriculum.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Occasional evening and weekend work required to meet deadlines and collect user feedback. This position is a 5 year rotation. Specialists hired for this position will agree to return to a school-based position for two years following their rotation unless they accept a promotional position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with EIC team, school staff, and parents to develop and support implementation of the Elementary Integrated Curriculum (EIC) in an online learning community.
Uses web and video technology to support effective implementation of the EIC.
Facilitates collaboration and communication among school staff in the online learning community to promote effective teaching practices.
As part of a collaborative team, serves as an expert in one or more of the following areas: accelerated and enriched instruction, art, English language learners, health education, information literacy, instructional technology, language arts, mathematics, music, physical education, professional development, reading, science, social studies, and special education.
Develops content, professional development experiences, assessments, and integrated lessons in a web-based environment.
Uses knowledge of Universal Design for Learning, effective differentiation, equitable practices, and culturally relevant curriculum to design and implement curriculum that is accessible and engaging for all learners.
Works closely with school staff to support effective implementation of the EIC and effective instructional practices and to collect feedback for improvements.
Supports and models effective development, evaluation, and rating of instructional and professional development resources by school-based staff users of the EIC.
Reviews field appropriate literature and research studies and reports to support and disseminate instructional best practices that develop content knowledge and skills, critical and creative thinking, and academic success.
Evaluates findings and suggests modifications to improve existing programs.
Collaborates with content supervisors on evaluation and selection of instructional materials.
Analyzes, evaluates, and supports effective instruction.
Prepares draft communications, responses, and presentations, using Web-based technology to facilitate timeliness and quality.
Makes on-site and Web-based presentations to parents and staff.
Performs related work as required. Other duties as assigned.
