SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: This position is fully funded through a Federal Grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for a 1-year period (August 2025-July 2026). The grant cycle may renew annually through July 2029 pending funding availability. (August 2024-July 2029) (NOFO: CDC-RFA-DP-24-0139). Under direction, collaborates with team members, school staff, and stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate programs designed to improve the health and well-being of youth. Supports the district in the CDC’s What Works in Schools program and collects and uses school-based surveillance data. Supports school-based staff and facilitates the collaborative interaction of staff, parents, students, community members, and partnerships to promote effective instructional practices and student achievement of rigorous curriculum in Health Education. Provides school support to middle and high schools.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Combination of expertise in curriculum and instruction. Thorough knowledge of MCPS grades 6 - 12 Health Education curriculum for all types of learners. Knowledge of MCPS Strategic Plan goals, and state and national standards. Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning, effective differentiation, equitable practices, and culturally relevant curriculum. Ability to use web and video technology to present information and encourage collaboration and effective instruction. Ability to successfully collaborate with stakeholder groups to reach program outcomes. Ability to analyze formal and informal assessment data to determine instructional needs and professional development in Health Education. Ability to lead multiple projects. Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills. |
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree or equivalency with courses in health education specialization, assessment/evaluation, administration and supervision, professional development, or accelerated and enriched instruction. Five years or more successful experience as a health education teacher or other health education field. School-based instructional leadership is desirable. Successful experience developing and supporting curriculum implementation and developing, coordinating, and conducting online and in person professional development and parent outreach activities. Experience in leading program improvement with system wide experience. Experience in planning and management of professional development for large groups. Experience in working with county, regional, and state professional committees or organizations. Experience in designing and implementing comprehensive educational materials and educator training sessions on Anti-Racism, Anti-Bias, Culturally Responsive, and Trauma-Informed Pedagogy. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Serves as the primary project lead in the CDC’s What Works in Schools program and collects and uses school-based surveillance data.Develops reports and provides information regarding program status and effectiveness.Participates in the School Health Advisory Committee as well as maintain relationships with collaborating organizations that are able to assist with program implementation.Assists in gathering, tabulating, interpreting, and reporting the data collected to identify curricular, staff development, and assessment needs for health education.Continues to strengthen the plan of action for enhancing health education in the district.Revises program and process evaluation instruments to evaluate progress in meeting stated objectives, and programmatic instruments to assess the quality of the program as needed.Provides support for the district’s School Health Council (SHC).Assists with policy formulation and ensures that policies are in line with district goals and in compliance with state legislative mandates.Develops and implements professional development opportunities as required by COMAR and Grant Program to enhance the Health Education curriculum, including Culturally Responsive teaching practices and strategies.Travels to CDC grant program required training.Collaborates with district, state, and national organizations related to the outcomes of the program.Serves as a program liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education and other agencies for health education.Collaborates with central office and school-based staff to implement, monitor, and evaluate program status, program needs, and technical assistance in health education.Serves on committees and teams as a liaison inside and outside the school system as necessary.Monitors the implementation of classroom resources in health education.Collaborates as part of an instructional team to support the implementation of middle and high school health education initiatives.Coordinates health education programs with state, federal, and local policies and regulations.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position. |
