EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizes many different approaches to integrate training and skills in implementing the mandates of federal and state laws, MCPS policies, regulations and procedures. Problem solves and identifies prevention and early intervention strategies for student success. Employs problem solving practices in order to provide healthy and effective alternatives to students, parents, and school staff regarding academic and behavioral issues. Promotes an understanding of child development, effective instructional practices, and behavior support; and strengthens the relationships between educators, parents, and community providers. Makes appropriate referrals to resources to facilitate educational, behavioral, and mental health interventions recommended for student successAssists school staff in collecting, monitoring, and analyzing data to identify students with attendance and/or discipline needs and participates on school collaborative problem solving teams. Assists in the identification and placement process for students with disabilities. Participate in the development, monitoring, and review of an Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs).Serves as case manager. Gathers data, prepares and presents cases to the central IEP team and to the Interagency Truancy Review Board. Counsels with staff, parents, and students on interventions and strategies related to school based (Level 1) alternative programs and to explore non-school based (Level 2) alternative educational programs for students who meet criteria for those services. Counsels students and their families on issues as appropriate. Consults with staff members to assist them with communicating and working more effectively with children and families. Works with administrators and school staff in identifying professional development needs, and conducts related professional development programs. Coordinates with school staff members, Juvenile Services, Child Welfare Services, Health and Human Services, and the State¿s Attorney¿s Office in providing supports and resources in cases such as child abuse and neglect. Develops supports and interventions to address and monitor students with chronic attendance issues. Develops supports and interventions to address dropout prevention to ensure compliance with MCPS and State of Maryland regulations. Assists parents and students in accessing appropriate services or agencies to address issues related to substance abuse, mental health needs, pregnancy, and other student needs. Collects, evaluates and provides information for hearing officers related to disciplinary proceedings and participates in the conferences at which these issues are discussed. Reviews cases for home schooling, invstigates change of school assignments requests, and case manages disciplinary proceedings as well as other cases. Provides crisis support services to students and families. Acts as a consultant to administrators and school staff in the interpretation of MCPS policies and regulations and federal and state laws. Participates in hearings and due process proceedings, as needed. Represents MCPS and OSFSE on school and systemwide workgroups.Understands and applies the six performance standards established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS). Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
