SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the school principal and the Director of the Department of Professional Growth Systems, plans and provides for professional learning opportunities for new employees in target schools to strengthen and extend the school system¿s existing priority and commitment to building the capacity of new school employees. The Governor's Emergency Education Relief (GEER II) Innovative Support Teacher will collaborate with stakeholders to development and facilitate year-round professional learning on effective and equitable strategies to increase student engagement and access to opportunities, social emotional learning needs of all students with a specific focus on incorporating trauma-informed practices, and social emotional learning needs of all students with a specific focus on incorporating trauma-informed practices. Monitors and evaluates training outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, MCPS policies, strategic priorities, and effective instructional practices. Understanding of the teaching/learning process. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, time management, project management, and human relations skills. Strong presentation skills. Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and knowledgeable about current MCPS technology. This position requires the knowledge and application of the performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland state standard and advanced professional certificate in a teaching area. Must have completed OAT I and OAT II or work toward the completion within one year of the position start date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) This is a two-year grant funded position. Frequent need to shift schedule to accommodate training after hours and on weekends. May be required to attend evening meetings. May be required to attend Maryland State Department of Education meetings. Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitors and manages all aspects of the Governor's Emergency Education Relief (GEER II) Fund Innovative Approaches to Connecting with Students - Competitive Grant.

Plans year-long onboarding experience for new employees in identified Title I and Focus schools.

Collaborates with the Coordinator of Onboarding and Induction.

Utilizes current research and best practices to support the development of robust and meaningful onboarding experiences.

Ensures that all activities and training experiences explicitly reinforce values, culture, actions and language that are anti-racist.

Collaborates with other school teams to support and provide professional learning related to system initiatives.

Monitors employee satisfaction throughout the onboarding cycle and utilizes the feedback to revise the program as needed.

Facilitates development of job-alike colleague networking opportunities.

Serves as a source of support and information for new employees.

Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.

Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, MCPS policy and administrative regulation.

Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.

Attends all Department of Professional Growth Staff Meetings.

Performs related work as required.
