WORKING TITLE: Teacher, Career and Community Outreach- Foundation Programs GRADE: AD MONTHS: 10
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Foundation Programs Coordinator, promotes career awareness by identifying, designing, and delivering business partnership activities. Facilitates school to career transition by working with assigned classes on job placement, scholarship applications, sales and marketing training, and other career and post-secondary opportunities. Organizes student recruitment events, and provides public relations activities including marketing and media relations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Montgomery County and its human resources, community and business organizations and activities; knowledge of school and classroom organization and mission. Willingness to be familiar with MCPS policies and effective instructional practices. Advance computer skills. Ability to speak well and write clearly and effectively; ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, school based staff, and students. Excellent communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in education from an accredited college or university preferred; or an associate degree in education from an accredited college with three years experience in public relations and/or marketing. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets (or commits to earn) Maryland state certification requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Occasional overtime, night work, and Saturday work. Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as required by supervisor.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with staff and programs of all three Foundations (ATF, CTF, ITF).

Interacts with schools, community leaders, local businessmen, teachers, parents, and students.

Identifies, designs, and delivers business partnership program activities to support student success.

Provides instruction to students at various high schools.

Promotes career and/or post-secondary awareness

Facilitates school to career/apprenticeship transition.

Instructs students on the process for post-secondary applications.

Creates awareness of scholarship opportunities and helps with the process.

Instructs assigned classes on career activities including job and/or /apprenticeship placement.

Trains students in marketing skills for the ATF used vehicle sale and the ITF used computers sales.

Trains students for their presentations for the CTF Open House and/or Cornerstone Ceremony.

Organizes student recruitment events to maintain full enrollment of programs.

Meets with students at middle and high schools to raise awareness of Foundation programs.

Meets with counseling departments at middle schools and high schools.

Participates in career day events at elementary, middle, and high schools.

Provides public relations activities to promote student entrepreneurial and academic successes.

Contacts various media for event coverage and press releases.

Develops and disseminates press releases and media publications.

Maintains data base of media and business contacts.

Photographs program events and provides leadership to participating students.

Maintains a photo display of annual program events in the Foundations Office.

Creates and updates public relations information.

Develops and publishes the three Foundations annual calendar of events.

Arranges for and supervises office interns.

Arranges for purchase of miscellaneous supplies for events and meetings.

Sets up for meetings and events.

Creates and maintains portable displays of program information.

Maintains bulletin board displays.

Creates computer-generated program flyers, event invitations, and student achievement certificates.

Performs related duties as required.
