SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Foundation Programs Supervisor, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students related to the Automotive Foundation sponsored used vehicle sales. The collective mission of all who are involved in the automotive trades foundation (ATF) program is the instruction of students and the renovation of foundation vehicle that supports the curriculum and Foundation business model. This collaboration includes both instructional and foundation program personnel. Incumbents provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of automotive related settings. Collaborates with program teachers to meet student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of all automotive trades, diagnostic tools and equipment required. Ability to operate all auto repair tools. Understands the operations of the ATF used car dealership corporation. Knowledge of MCPS policies, curriculum, effective instructional practices and techniques for integrating automotive trades and technology into the curriculum. Understands the teaching/learning process and the instructional programs that relate to the Foundations. Ability to plan, and implement Trades Foundation events and activities. Possesses knowledge of licensing organizations procedures and process. Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks simultaneously. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, school based staff, and students. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills..
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma/GED required. Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university preferred; or an associate degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college with three or more years industry experience; or 5 or more years of industry experience within the last 10 years supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship and/or technical school training in the profession, as well as varied and responsible experiences in the auto industry.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education, as well as holds recognized through an organization such as the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) that certify repair technicians and mechanics as capable and qualified to conduct automotive maintenance and repairs certifications required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to lift 20-50 lbs on a regular basis without help. Frequent physical labor or other physical activity that is typical to the automotive profession such as, stooping, bending, standing for extended periods, moving heavy objects, reacting quickly using hands, fingers, or feet, speaking clearly so listeners can understand and the ability to move around the classroom and/or automotive shop including Working in all types of weather conditions (cold, hot, wet, and windy, etc). Crisis intervention may require participating in physical restraints.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Required to attend school meetings, Saturday vehicle sales, programs and activities outside the instructional day as required by supervisor.

Implements an instructional program that meets the needs, interests and abilities of individuals with and without disabilities to ensure Success for Every Student.

Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and to communicate these objectives to students, both written and orally.

Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, requirements of MCPS curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.

Plans for and utilizes instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives, as well as achieving automotive benchmarks.

Implements identified IEP accommodations. Provides input when necessary to student IEP's.

Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, MCPS policy, and administration to include a daily site journal.

Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom site, develops reasonable rules of classroom site behavior and procedures, and maintains order in the work site in a fair and just manner.

Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related or automotive requirement purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so.

Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.

Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for the para educator in collaboration with other instructional staff.

Maintains and engages in activities to improve professional competence.

Participates in department management and shares responsibility for the total Foundation Office programs.

Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

Secures Foundation automotive areas, tools, equipment, and materials at the end of each day.

Performs estimates of automotive parts availability to meet the automotive teaching schedule.

Orders and picks up materials to meet automotive needs with approval from supervisor.

Assists the instructional specialist in the development of an automotive wholesale and sale schedule and completion of required tasks.

Meets with the instructional specialist to address board member concerns and directions following site visits.

Assists the instructional specialist in scheduling and/or communicating with dealerships and businesses.

Communicates with teachers, instructional specialist, program personnel, and program supervisor related to stated duties.

Keeps abreast of new trends and programs in the respective fields of responsibility.

Participates in In-Service activities related to duties.

Assists the instructional specialist with the development of appropriate curriculum for Foundation programs.

Meets with all MCPS automotive teachers on a weekly basis.

Utilizes the resources of MCPS and other government agencies.

Establishes and maintaining community relations.

Calculating job repair costing and estimating.

Plans and coordinates the vehicle inventory and vehicle repair assignments.

Works with students, teachers, and customers during car sales and vehicle donations.

Communicates with manufacturer¿s representatives and suppliers.

Manages MVA required documentation including customer records, tag, and title work.

Possesses a salesman license and secures dealer tags, temporary tags, registrations.

Facilitates tag work between customers and MVA as per dealership requirements.

Understands and applies the six performance standards established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned by the Foundation Specialist and Supervisor.
