SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision of the school-based administrator, serves as the lead instructor for the internship and apprenticeship program. Assists in the design, implementation, and instructional delivery of internship and apprenticeship programs in coordination with MCPS and in partnership with the local business community. Work involves weekly delivery of instructional programs, as well as direct contact with central Work Based Learning (WBL) Team in the Department of College and Career Readiness and Districtwide Programs, business leaders, school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to identify and deliver program activities to support student success, particularly in the areas of career planning and development. Promotes work experience opportunities, recruits and prepares students, and provides instructional support for students enrolled in internship and apprenticeship courses (per the MCPS high school course bulletin). Uses the MCPS web-based Work Based Learning (WBL) platform and district resources to monitor program implementation at the school level, analyzes and tracks WBL school data, and collaborates with the MCPS WBL team to expand and strengthen work-based learning opportunities for all students. Responsible for leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual school-based WBL Action Plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of MCPS and its human resources, community, and business organizations and activities; knowledge of school and classroom organization and mission; knowledge of instructional programs and curriculum development; knowledge of school/business partnership development processes. Demonstrates strong presentation and effective written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal interaction.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university. A minimum of three years teaching experience is required. Coursework and/or experience in the development and administration of volunteer and partnership programs required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification requirements for secondary education. Work-Based Learning Coordinator Endorsement is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) agreement.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual school-based WBL Action Plan.

Ensures each MCPS high school is aligned with the WBL goals of the MCPS Strategic Plan and apprenticeship goals of Blueprint for Maryland Legislation, Pillar III.

Serves as the WBL Committee Chairperson and facilitates school-based WBL Team meetings.

Works in collaboration with WorkSource Montgomery Career Advising Coaches, CTE and CCRD teachers, counselors, college career information coordinators, and transition service teachers to strategically help all students gain access to an experiential learning opportunity with an employer to develop their resume and post-secondary career plans.

Attends MCPS WBL Professional Learning Community meetings, professional development training, and districtwide events.

Serves as an instructional teacher for internship and apprenticeship coursework, seminars, portfolio development & check-ins with students, and collaboration with employer supervisors.

Promotes internship and apprenticeship opportunities, through the MCPS web-based WBL platform, at back-to-school nights, open houses, career fairs, classroom & assembly presentations, etc.

Celebrates and recognizes interns and apprentices through school newsletters, morning announcements, school bulletin boards, and award ceremonies.

Works in collaboration with the WBL Committee to identify ways to increase student awareness and understanding of WBL opportunities starting in Grade 9.

Assists students with resume development, internship and apprenticeship applications, required job-readiness documentation, and career coaching.

Helps students identify opportunities that align with their career plans.

Coaches and helps students prepare for in-person, virtual, and phone interviews with employers.
Prepares students for competitive WBL opportunities.

Assists students with employer onboarding activities and access to professional resources.
Serves as the liaison among employers, students and families.

Provides support as needed to ensure a positive work experience.

Uses the MCPS web-based WBL platform to track and maintain information on students throughout the recruitment, application, placement, and completion phases of internship or apprenticeship, including managing student digital portfolio and tracking professional competencies.

Collects and monitors school WBL data, prepares reports, plans continuous improvement efforts, and keeps the resource teacher, school administration and WBL team updated.

Conducts worksite visits, maintains communication with employer supervisors, and collaborates with the MCPS WBL team to strategically coordinate site visits.

Performs other duties as assigned, as it relates to duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
