EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under supervision, the Infant/Toddler Teacher implements a home-based which may include program teaching parents about:, 1) their child's specific visual impairment(s) and the implications for developmental growth and learning, 2) how to enhance and broaden the child's understanding of experiences in his world,3) adaptations and modifications of the home setting to support learning, 4) ways to foster parent/infant bonding 5) specific interventions for visual, auditory, tactual-kinesthetic, olfactory and gustatory stimulation,6) use of language as a descriptor to support perceptual development, body image, basic concepts, mobility and orientation in space. In addition, the Infant/Toddler Teacher constantly reassesses parent/child learning needs illustrating how the visual impairment is or is not affecting progress; preparing parents for predictable delays, social/emotional interactions with strangers, and helping the parent develop the ability to realistically plan for the child's future. The Infant/Toddler Teacher also consults with other special educators and related service providers (speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy) regarding the impact of vision loss on other skill areas.Performs related work as required.
