Provides both formal and informal assessment in reading. Selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of students with intensive reading needs to provide access to the general curriculum. Assists school staff members in determining specific reading interventions and strategies in reading and writing based upon an analysis of individual student need. Participates in school-based IEP team meetings as needed. Implements systematic research-based instructional reading programs and reading strategies that will assist students in the development of surface-level skills (phonological awareness, decoding, word recognition, reading fluency) as well as comprehension level skills (vocabulary, responsive comprehension). Interprets both standardized assessments and curriculum-based assessment for students to make instructional decisions. Collects and analyzes data of student performance to improve student outcomes with direct instruction using both pre- and post-test data. Selects and adapts materials to assist students with disabilities to access the general education curriculum. Supports the general education classroom through consultation on accommodations and differentiated instruction. Participates in in-service activities. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
