SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Assesses, plans, and implements physical therapy services for children from birth to 21 and provides consultation to parents and team members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the field of physical therapy, child development, educational disabilities, and legal regulations regarding early intervention and special education. Ability to apply skills to school-based therapy by relating intervention programs to curricular outcomes. Ability to provide early intervention services in the home. Effective oral and written communication, human relations, and time management skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Degree from an accredited college or university in physical therapy. Additional knowledge of neuro-developmental treatment and educational based therapy desirable.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Current licensure from the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods; may require lifting and transfers to use equipment and adaptive devices.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) None
OVERTIME ELIGIBLE: No

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Screens and evaluates children to determine needs for physical therapy.

Identifies physical therapy goals for the child's individualized family service plan (IFSP) or individualized education program (IEP).

Provides physical therapy interventions that enable children with disabilities to benefit from special education and to participate in the natural/general education environment.

Provides consultation to team members on reinforcement of strategies and use of adaptive equipment for functional mobility, positioning, and safe participation in daily activities.

Maintains communication with parents to discuss progress on goals and provide activities for home to reinforce skills.

Completes required documentation including evaluations, progress notes, service logs, IEPS, IFSPs and quarterly progress reports in a timely manner.

Participates in staff meetings and development activities

Participates in IFSP and IEP meetings, team meetings and parent conferences


Ssupervises service provided by physical therapy students and physical therapy assistants.


Performs related work as required.
