WORKING TITLE: Teacher, Resource Middle School GRADE: AD MONTHS: 10
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the direction of the middle school (MS) principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Working with interdisciplinary teams, provides a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for every student. Supervises MS students in a variety of school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with MS students, staff, parents, and community. Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all MS students. Maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures and practices, and uses data analysis to monitor student achievement. Monitors appropriate use and care of instructional resources, and facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies Ability to use a variety of instructional and behavioral management strategies appropriate to the needs of MS adolescents, and techniques integrating reading, writing, math, and technology; throughout the content areas. Ability to self-reflect on instructional practices and personal interactions for continuous improvement. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents, and community demonstrating organizational agility. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS), and the Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: A Masters degree or Masters equivalency (MEQ) in applicable field from an accredited college or university is required. A minimum five years of successful secondary teaching with three of those years in the appropriate subject field with one year in MCPS preferred. Experience with instructional leadership, curriculum implementation, and professional development desirable. Completion of Observing and Analyzing (OAT) 1 by the beginning of the second year of the assignment and OAT 2 by the end of the second year in assignment.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Plans a program of study designed to meet the needs, interests and abilities of MS adolescents to ensure Success for Every Student.

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated on a regular and consistent basis.

Serve as grade level team leader, or works collaboratively with the team leader, to coordinate the grade level instructional program.

Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each MS student to achieve learning objectives.

Provides an interdisciplinary instructional program to meet the needs of all middle students.

Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisor.

Guides the learning process toward the fidelity of implementation of the MS curriculum.

Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of MS student needs, requirements of MCPS curriculum, and knowledge of adolescent growth and development.

Plans and utilizes interdisciplinary instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each MS student to achieve success.

Diagnoses the exceptional abilities of MS students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of central staff as required.

Provides input to MS student individual education plans when requested.

Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect MS students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, MCPS policy and administrative regulation.

Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing MS student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure in a fair and just manner.

Under reasonable term, is accessible to MS students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

Establishes relationships with teams, colleagues, students, parents and community in a culture of respect.

Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraeducators, teacher assistants, and volunteers.

May assist with the evaluation of paraeducators¿ job performance.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
