Summary Description:
Under direction, oversees the Head Start parent involvement component including training and leadership of the Parent Policy Council and self evaluation of the program. Assures that parents are meaningfully involved in each component of administration, education, social services, health, disabilities and volunteer activities. Develops the parent involvement plan and monitors staff and parent activities to ascertain fulfillment of the parent involvement performance Standards.

Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement. |
General knowledge of the federal and local guidelines governing the Head Start program, MCPS structure and the needs of Head Start parents. Thorough knowledge of the diverse populations served. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate a parent program that involves parents, school staff and community members in collectively working together to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Head Start program. Ability to work with economically and educationally disadvantaged populations. Excellent organizational and human relation skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education Training Experience:Bachelor^s degree from an accredited college or university. Coursework in education, communication and counseling. Experience in school and/or community activities and programs, preferably in a leadership role. Experience in working with adults in the target areas. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:None.

Example Duties:Assumes responsibility for the parent involvement program as required by the program Performance Standards and 70.2.Coordinates all activities of the component to assure parents active involvement throughout the program.Plans and maintains a system for effective two-way communication between parents and staff which includes information about the program, its services, activities for children, policy committees and community groups.Facilitates and coordinates the organization of the Parent Policy Council.
