SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the direction of the principal and monitored by staff members within the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Programs, the CSST assists Career and Technology Education (CTE) classroom teachers in supporting the shared accountability process to ensure that students who are enrolled in CTE courses are successfully prepared for rigorous coursework, are college-ready, are prepared to enter an area of skilled employment, and works to identify barriers to student success and develops a plan of action. This program is Federally funded by the Carl D. Perkins Grant, allocated by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Supports CTE program completion, academic interventions, student recruitment, including nontraditional students, internship placement, and partnerships. Collaborate with and provide support to internship coordinator and CTE teachers to design and implement strategies for working with a diverse student population, including the integration of academic and CTE outcomes, skills standards, end-of-course assessments, industry certifications, high school assessments, and graduation requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of CTE programs and outcomes, smaller learning communities concepts, and have experience in assessing needs of students and teachers in meeting CTE programs of study and high school assessment outcomes. Knowledge of special population students defined as students who are academically or economically disadvantaged, students with disabilities, students with limited English proficiency, and students enrolled in nontraditional CTE programs. Ability to work collaboratively with special education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and the school staff for the use of student achievement strategies to be used with all CTE students, including special needs students in lab and classroom settings. Possess computer skills to be utilized in maintaining detailed records of services provided. Able to collect and analyze student data to support student success.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in education from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred. Five years or more successful teaching experience with students who have special needs, identified as disadvantaged, disabled, or limited English proficiency, or trade and industry certified as defined by MSDE requirements. Experience working in a classroom environment supporting student educational goals through by providing conflict resolution, mentoring, counseling support.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland certification requirements for a classroom teacher.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Special population students are defined as students who are academically or economically disadvantaged, students with disabilities, students with limited English proficiency, and students identified as nontraditional population within MSDE approved CTE programs of study.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with principals, CTE teachers, and core academic teachers to identify students in CTE programs in need of extra support to complete CTE programs of study, and on the development and implementation of individual student plans to enable student success (e.g., program concentration, program completion, high school graduation).

Collects data and prepares reports as requested for submission to MSDE.

Support CTE student recruitment of nontraditional students and academic interventions.

Provide accommodations to CTE students to ensure attainment of workplace competencies as requested.

Attend school district CSST meetings, completes data charts and reports as requested.

Provides support in securing internship work-based sites and clinical experiences.

Assists internship coordinator in securing internship work based sites.

Understands and applies the six performance standards established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position and/or assigned by the principal to support CTE students.
