SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: The Distinguished Lead Teacher, under the direct supervision of a central office supervisor with feedback from the principal, serves as both a highly effective classroom instructor and an instructional leader. This role includes direct instruction of at least one course/subject for all marking periods at a maximum of 40% of the time. A minimum of 20% of the Distinguished Lead Teacher’s time (instruction and leadership) shall be reserved for planning. Supports and mentors Level 4A Lead Teachers and collaborates with central office staff PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The Distinguished Lead Teacher utilizes deep content knowledge in their area of NBC certification research expertise, including action research, such as Student Learning Objectives (SLO), to lead Level 4A Lead teachers to develop programs, curriculum, teaching techniques, and other interventions. Extensive knowledge of curriculum, and human development considerations including the characteristics and needs of students. Possesses deep content knowledge in the area of National Board Certification (NBC). Proficient in action research, such as SLO. Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills. Working knowledge of data analysis principles, and of technologies used in instruction and program management. Ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, parents, and students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with evidence of continuing professional development. Minimum of three years’ outstanding teacher leadership experience. Experience in team planning, cooperative learning, team teaching, and in a relevant leadership role desirable. CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements. Must have National Board Certification or equivalent. Only unit members who qualify for Level 3 of the Career Ladder may apply to enter a pool of qualified candidates to be considered for Level 4A Lead Teacher positions. Only unit members eligible for Level 4A may apply to enter a pool of qualified candidates to be considered for Level 4B Distinguished Lead Teacher positions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ●Provides direct instruction to students, as a teacher of record, of at least one course/subject for all marking periods at a maximum of 40% of their time.●Collaborates with 4A Lead Teachers and central-office staff to design and deliver job-embedded professional learning.●Collaborates with 4A Lead Teachers by sharing expertise in lesson planning, differentiated instruction, data-driven teaching, classroom management, and digital tools.●Supports and mentors 4A Lead teachers to enable them to develop their skills, including the facilitation of a professional learning community.●Monitors and analyzes student data to guide 4A Lead Teachers in evidence-based approaches to develop programs, curriculum, teaching techniques, and interventions.●Supports equity initiatives and serves as a thought partner in shaping instructional culture and systems of support.●Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
