Transportation Staffing Coordinator

WORKING TITLE: Transportation Staffing Coordinator GRADE: 19 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, coordinates the staffing of bus operator and attendant positions. Schedules drug-testing and training for applicants and supervises other staff working to staff bus operator/attendant positions. Provides leadership for the New Employee Coordinators at each depot. Implements methods to achieve current and long-range staffing plans for bus operator/attendant positions. Participates as an HR representative at the new employee orientation program. Handles pre-employment drug testing and CDL physical for commercial vehicle driver candidates from other MCPS units.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of personnel policies, procedures and regulations, particularly those related to the assignment bus operators and attendants. Ability to lead and train others. Knowledge of the HRIS, Transportation TIMS and mainframe systems. Knowledge of COMAR requirements and procedures and federal drug testing requirements for positions requiring a Commercial Driver's License. Excellent communications skills needed to clearly communicate rules and procedures. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelors degree preferred. College course work in transportation, management, human resources, or other related field desirable. Progressively responsible experience in a busy office environment, including some supervisory experience desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews and processes employment applications and interviews applicants. Reviews and evaluates applicant's qualifications in accordance with MCPS polices and applicable federal, state, or local law.

Develops and maintains relevant questions for interviewing applicants.

Maintains records for background checks and applicant fingerprinting. Maintains list of ineligible candidates for reference

Checks driving record and the state-wide alcohol and drug testing databases.

Guides prospective employees in completion of all paperwork and completes all hiring documents needed to enable the hiring process

Creates employee identification badge for new hires.

Prepares statistical reports about hiring and retention of bus personnel.

Prepares and places ads for recruitment of bus personnel. Attends job fairs to recruit bus personnel.

Coordinates training sessions for substitutes to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.
Creates and distributes information packets to new hires.

Works with timekeepers to resolve payroll issues stemming from inaccurate database information.

Reviews bus depot staffing reports in order to properly assign new bus employees based on a depot needs.

Assists in recruiting candidates for other positions such as mechanics and service workers.

Performs related work as required
