WORKING TITLE: Data Systems Operator II, Title I GRADE: 15 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, performs skilled and specialized office support work in providing a variety of data reports to the Title I unit. The work consists of handling various types of data, accessing data systems, gathering data, organizing data, generating reports in regular intervals using student information systems, student performance systems, human resources data, and other data sources. Workers determine the format of data files, enter and correct data, and modify file structures when using desktop computer software. They access, update, edit, and produce reports on the data, enter new data into established files, add and edit data in existing records, and modify and reformat reports. Collaborates with central technical staff to modify programs. Workers have substantive knowledge of the data and its uses. Work requires sustained operation of a computer terminal usually on a full-time basis. Routine clerical work and updated webpages are a normal part of their duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of the operation of computer terminals, desktop computers and standard software or mainframe programs used to access and utilize data files; working knowledge of business English and spelling; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to layout and format data file structures and to modify and update such structures as required; ability to explain data requirements to technical staff in order to design, implement and test database systems; ability to operate technology devices to manipulate data files and to produce required reports; ability to communicate effectively with others; ability to work for prolonged periods of time at a computer terminal. Skill in the proficient operation of computer terminals. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Minimum two years of experience with considerable responsible experience in using computer terminals in word processing, database or spreadsheet software applications preferably supplemented with experience in updating websites, and web-based data applications. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Positions require the sustained operation of computer terminals.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Collects, organizes, and prepares Title I data for submission to the Maryland State Department of Education.

2. Generates and/or organizes parent engagement data, assessment data, teacher and paraeducator qualification data, and socio-economic status data related to Title I requirements.

3. Designs user reports and extracts data from database to use with graphics and other programs.

4. Designs, tests and implements student database and modifies from year to year as required; maintains database and generates various reports and documentation.

5. Maintains local area networks and serves as liaison with Help Desk.

6. Updates the Title I website.

7. Enters course information to create professional development sessions on PDO.

8. Reports enrollment data for Pre-k and Head Start in Title I schools.

9. Reports Title I summer program enrollment data.

10. Collaborates with the Department of Student and Data Systems to maintain and monitor the Title I summer program registration process.
11. Distributes reports to appropriate staff.

12. Provides general support in the use of data reports and files.

13. Performs related work as required.
