EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides technical leadership to assist in determining strategic direction for operating system software for client server based large scale relational database applications. 2. Designs, plans, installs and maintains systems software for client servers for large scale UNIX based systems. Also provides NT Windows server based support as needed a possible replacement for UNIX. 3. Coordinates and implements any technical UNIX requirements for the database analysis administration staff needed for ORACLE Oracle or other relational database software. 4. Designs and implements backup strategies in coordination with the database analysis administration staff. 5. Provides for system level backup strategies. 6. Performs Unix systems administration task such as building file systems, devices, adding users and requirements for Logical Storage Management and implements any Unix security requirements at a C2 compliance level as directed by the MCPS IT Security Officer. 7. Provides for in-depth Unix related problem determination and resolution. 8. Provides in-depth monitoring and applies any required tuning, fixes or upgrades to enterprise server or data storage equipment. 9. Determines and implements actions to be taken to avoid denial of services on a proactive basis. Develops procedures and training for computer data center operations staff as needed for requirements such as backups, printing services and first level monitoring. 10. Provides necessary research, planning, coordination documentation on a technical basis to implement and maintain an MCPS comprehensive disaster recovery program for critical systems. This includes coordination with staff for such needs as large scale servers (UNIX/NT Windows), Central Server/Mainframe, WAN (Wide Area Network, LANs (Local Areas Networks), MCPS Internet services and MCPS E-mail services. It would also include any needed coordination for Hot Site and Business Recovery Site with customer organizations and vendor(s).Keeps up with current technology related to server operating system software and storage management systems (SANs and NAS) as well as evaluation of possible emerging technologies. 11. Participates in research and developments efforts involving new technologies in collaboration with other information technology teams in MCPS in OGAT. 12. Participates in development of any needed interfaces or transfer of information between different IDMS and Oracle databases. 13. Performs related duties as required.
