SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction in the Office of Shared Accountability, serves as the functional, technical, and creative lead in designing, developing, and managing data dashboards for public consumption. Partners with offices to coordinate ongoing functional and technical requirements gathering necessary to publish dynamic and accurate visualizations. Conducts complex studies and analyses of datasets to uncover trends using a wide variety of tools and systems including business intelligence software, customer relationship management software, geospatial mapping software, open data platforms, statistical analysis applications, data integration and manipulation tools and techniques.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of business intelligence (BI) technologies and other data software solutions to turn data into visual knowledge. Thorough knowledge and understanding of business processes, underlying data and reporting needs. Highly skilled in reviewing data to tell a story that will support the goal to inform the community, of the direction and operation of MCPS through an online vehicle to engage and inform the community. Highly experienced in using SQL for data transformation and analysis with familiarity with dimensional and relational modeling practices. Thorough knowledge of technologies used for web publishing and content management. Highly skilled and with a demonstrated ability to create and maintain an interactive website that conform to web standards (W3C). Highly knowledgeable of using ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, and/or JavaScript for web design. Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team. Ability to work under severe time constraints. Must possess analytical and complex problem solving skills to reconcile conflicting or ambiguous data and information from diverse organizational units. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, human relations skills, and time management skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required with a major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or related technical field. Master¿s degree preferred. Five + years demonstrated professional experience as a BI Developer performing data analysis and interpretation, program evaluation, and/or process improvement in an academic, data administration or data analytics environment. Possession of a graduate degree in one of the above fields may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Tableau Qualified Associate Certification preferred.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with district leadership and project representatives across offices to develop interactive, high-impact data dashboards ensuring that plans align with the Superintendents priorities.

Analyzes dataset(s) to define dashboard parameters and scope.

Develops technical documentation (system requirements, functional/detailed design, etc.).

Develops and manages project plans to ensure timely delivery.

Defines and communicates best practices for report development.

Integrates data dashboards and reports into publicly available district website.

Conducts analyses of site usage and suggests improvements to the organization and structure of site content.

Reviews and analyzes database designs, entity relationships, and proposed SQL statements.

Creates and updates database architecture and schemas as needed.

Develops and implements quality controls for data publishing.

Links directly to data sources or imports data periodically and on varying schedules to maintain current dashboard data.

Troubleshoots and resolves data quality issues and maintain high level of data accuracy in the data being reported.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
