WORKING TITLE: Application Specialist I, Business Intelligence Data Modeler GRADE: 23 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under minimal supervision, collaborates with project management and data warehouse development teams; creates and maintains conceptual and physical relational and multi-dimensional data models while maintaining MCPS metadata repositories; creates ETL programs in support of the data warehouse and other operational databases; translates requirements into detailed specifications, and develops and documents business processes, data requirements and metrics; supports end users of the data access tools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must have comprehensive knowledge of data warehousing, dimensional, and relational data modeling using one or more CASE tools; demonstrate structured analysis, data analysis skills, problem-solving, and conceptual skills; knowledge of ETL and reporting tools. Must have a working knowledge of database management systems; have solid verbal and written communication skills; have the ability to work effectively in a team environment; have effective time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. Minimum three years data modeling experience on enterprise-level projects; Experience in designing, programming, and maintaining ETL processes; and in creation of system requirements and test plans; familiarity with data warehouse architecture; with data modeling tools, database programming tools, SQL, and database access tools; excellent communication skills, and ability to learn business practices and concepts required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Must operate computer work stations for sustained periods, lift and move PC equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Some overtime, evening and weekend work required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works closely with data administration supervisor and project teams.

2. Serves as liaison to other project teams to ensure corporate standards and architecture vision is realized.

3. Documents requirements consistent with work products and deliverables defined by project management.

4. Translates requirements into detailed specifications.

5. Prepares accurate task estimates and ensures timely delivery.

6. Prepares test strategies, test scripts, and conducts system tests.

7. Designs and implements ETL processes.

8. Participates in requirements and design of operational data stores and data warehouse architecture.

10. Develops and maintains metadata repositories.

11. Develop, test, implement, and maintain code in the appropriate database programming language.

12. Fully tests and documents all development work.

13. Performs related duties as required.
