EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as central point of contact for central office and non-school security efforts.2. Provides direct guidance and support to senior level executives, officials, and non-school security teams in safety, security, and emergency preparedness matters; provides recommendations on issues of maintaining a safe and secure learning and working environment.3. Performs security assessments of MCPS property and functions; and reviews and approves facility emergency plans and conducts emergency preparedness drills.4. Conducts complex threat/harassment/assault investigations as well as high level safety/security related investigations. Conducts and assists with other investigations as needed.5. Responds to after-hour calls/emails that involve serious and life-threatening incidents and coordinates with law enforcement officers and detectives; responds to central office security incidents.6. Manages, leads, supervises a security team.7. Develops work duties and assignments as well as performance observations for security team.8. Conducts prescreening, hiring, observations and evaluations of new hire, existing and temporary security staff.9. Assists in developing and delivering non-school safety, security and emergency and crisis preparedness trainings for new and existing security staff and other non-school staff.10. Conducts follow-up investigations following an incident.11. Participates in meetings for disciplinary issues with school personnel, serving as a witness and providing recommendations for action.12. Represents the school system in criminal court cases as necessary.13. Provides support for law enforcement and department of personnel staff in criminal and administrative investigations on MCPS property.14. Analyzes security trends through serious incident reports, making recommendations to Chief Safety Officer based on trends.15. Maintains close contact and liaises with the county police.16. Engages in community outreach services and relationship building activities. Creates public awareness bulletins and other security-related publications.17. Creates operations plans (including staff assignments and duties, evacuation routes, traffic concerns, police safe rooms, aerial photos and diagrams) for high impact community meetings and conducts event briefings for local law enforcement.18. Writes MCPS security policies, procedures and checklists for handling critical incidents.19. Facilitates in mediation for students and families.20. Performs related work as required.
