WORKING TITLE: IT Systems Technician, DFNS GRADE: 18 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Performs technical paraprofessional work related to a specialized area of technology support and performs related duties, as required or assigned. Under general direction from the assigned supervisor in the Division of Food and Nutrition Services (DFNS), this position provides technology administration, configuration, operation and troubleshooting of hardware, software and data systems used in offices and MCPS cafeterias. Supports the preparation of reports, import/export of data files, data analysis, data validation and documentation of internal procedures. Supports division help desk operations providing customer service to office/cafeteria staff and parents. Maintains database of equipment and equipment users.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of current database and software programs, including standard desktop and communications applications. Ability to create comparisons and analyses of technical issues and to quickly learn assigned tasks. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to learn new software and processes as they become available. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Access, MS Excel, MS Word) required. Experience with programming languages and tools including SQL, Visual Basic/VBA preferred. Professional experience supporting users and technology administration preferred. Completion of coursework in related technical field required. Minimum two years field experience in two or more of the following areas: Technology administration and configuration of data systems; Data validation, import/export, reporting and analysis; Troubleshooting of computer hardware and software; Documentation of technical procedures; The evaluation, operation, maintenance, and repair of instructional equipment. Experience and/or completion of courses in use and repair of microcomputer and attached equipment. Experience in computer applications, operating systems, computer architecture and networking desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring physical exertion and climbing. Ability to climb ladder, work in confined spaces, and lift heavy loads of 40 lbs. or more.

1. Performs responsible technical tasks related to technology initiatives, such as quality assurance, technology modernization, telecommunications, E-rate, equipment repair, and audio-visual support.

2. Performs more routine and technical or administrative tasks associated with technology initiatives.

3. Supports customer needs.

4. May organize meetings and document and track needed follow-ups.

5. May provide support to IT system specialists and/or IT system engineers.

6. May use various database and software programs to develop databases that support technology initiatives.

7. May regularly update existing databases to maintain accurate information.

8. May perform routine comparisons of data and analyses of information.

9. May assist in the implementation of new technology initiatives.

10. May review existing information related to a technology initiative and correct or update, as needed.

11. May handle correspondence and other staff and customer communications.

12. May provide guidance and assistance to full-, part-time, and/or hourly employees, as required.

13. Performs related work as required.
