SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: The Professional Growth Consultants (PGC) (4-year rotationing position) provides assistance to supporting services employees who are not meeting competencies according to the core competency performance criteria of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). PGCs conduct fact-finding, intake, and progress meetings; identify strategies to resolve job-related underperformance; perform on-site observations; help employees build a general core competency knowledge base; coordinate support structures for improving technical job knowledge; guide employee efforts to contribute to student achievement; provide coaching and feedback to employees; develop and conduct trainings/presentations relating to the SSPGS; and build positive working relationships with stakeholders. PGCs regularly meet with and provide feedback to administrators and supervisors regarding an employee¿s status and collaborate with principals, administrators, and supervisors to provide maximum assistance to supporting services employees assigned to their caseloads. They prepare, submit, and present summary documentation to the Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) Panel regarding the progress and status of supporting services employees receiving peer assistance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the seven core competencies in the SSPGS and the resources available to improve employee performance; knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) policies, procedures, and regulations; knowledge of MCPS Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500 contract; ability to demonstrate best practices in a variety of basic and general supporting services skills and to model a repertoire of the core competencies; ability to analyze issues and implement appropriate strategies to meet the needs of the job; ability to write proficient, objective, and data-driven reports; mastery of core competencies, including commitment to students, professionalism, interpersonal, communication (oral, written and electronic), organization, and problem-solving; ability to mentor adults with respect and confidentiality. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree preferred. Five years of MCPS work experience with a meets competencies for the most recent three years. Evidence of successful supervisory experience or comparable leadership role, training experience; experience in conflict resolution, mentoring, and/or working with adults. Participation in special projects in a variety of settings is desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends. Note: This is a 4-year rotating position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in the implementation of the Performance Improvement Process (PIP) for supporting services employees identified as not meeting one or more core competencies according to the performance criteria of the SSPGS.

2. Conducts initial fact-finding and intake meetings with employee and supervisor/administrator to determine the merits of the referral to PIP and to discuss options available to the employee.

3. Works with assigned supporting services employees to improve their job performance in order to meet the performance criteria of all seven core competencies.

4. Promotes the MCPS Culture of Respect by building positive working relationships with stakeholders.

5. Conducts observations and provides timely and accurate feedback and coaching to employees, supervisors, and administrators to promote growth and development.

6. Writes PAR agreement, minutes/progress notes, observation reports, and summative reports throughout the PAR process to document employee progress.

7. Assumes a leadership role in various situations, such as in meetings, trainings, and committee assignments.

8. Collaborates with stakeholders, including supervisors, administrators, employees, peers, PAR panel members, OHRD staff members, training coordinators, schools, offices, and departments.

9. Prepares, submits, and presents monthly and final reports to the PAR panel regarding the status of employees in PIP.

10. Maintains accurate client database, records, files, and documentation.

11. Develops and conducts training/presentations for various audiences to include supporting services employees, supervisors, and administrators.

12. Coordinates and facilitates meetings with various stakeholders within MCPS.

13. Networks inside and outside MCPS to obtain additional resources, as necessary.

14. Keeps current with MCPS initiatives and is knowledgeable about current training programs.

15. Participates in the planning and delivery of year-round orientation and training.

16. Performs other related duties as assigned.
