SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, the web services specialist plays a crucial role in the creation, management, and optimization of web-based communications materials. This role involves developing and maintaining web content and design, leading projects, engaging stakeholders, graphic and presentation work, and ensuring cohesive brand representation. Develops and maintains web pages, web sites, email newsletters, and news blogs; manages and configures content management systems and oversees quality assurance; configures and maintains Google search tools; oversees front-end development of HTML, CSS, Javascript and SCSS markup, website architecture and maintains compliance with web and America with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Provides training and support to schools and offices relative to web content, online courses, content management system, staff directory, forms and other applications. Conducts analytics and research; performs design, print and presentation work; manages projects and engages stakeholders as needed and requested. The work of the class involves writing, editing, reviewing, and modifying content for online publication and distribution; using technical skills to create and modify online content; writing user documentation; selection and preparation of photos and graphics for the web; aiding in the editorial development of new online communications; supporting and training webmasters to improve their editorial or communications skills; analyzing, reviewing, and critiquing online communications; reviewing web traffic reports and site visitor surveys to improve site usability; assisting with improvements to site information architecture; conducting research and writing reports; quality assurance and proofing; supporting the deployment of new online publishing and communications materials and technologies; tracking the development of web standards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of best practices for writing for the web. Proficiency in web publishing technologies, including HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Javascript, SCSS markup, content management systems and ADA standards. Ability to analyze and improve content for usability and accessibility. Strong collaboration, project management and stakeholder engagement skills. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop. Knowledge of InDesign and illustrator preferred. Proficiency with Google Analytics and Google Search. Ability to stay updated on evolving web communication technologies and standards. Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills. Ability to work well in a team environment.Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. College major study in new / interactive media, journalism, English, web development or related field. Considerable experience in web site content production, design, and project management. , including recent experience with CSS and web sites with large amounts of frequently updated content. Experience with web standards, web site usability studies, and information architecture.CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None

This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or ability associated with this classification in every office, but is intended to accurately reflect the core job elements.)Responsible for web content, development and management, including:Developing and maintaining web pages, sites, email newsletters, and news blogs.Managing and configuring the content management systems, building templates for web content editors.Conducting quality assurance checks of the content management system and applications.Updating MCPS web pages and sites with new content, ensuring formatting and styling align with existing branding.Organizing, styles and formats content and information on web pages to enhance user experience.Configuring and maintaining the Google search tool for the MCPS website and implement individualized search collections for each school and some applications.Responsible for front-end development, including:Creating and ensuring efficient HTML, CSS, Javascript and SCSS markup, website architecture, and compliance with web and ADA standards.Collaborating with developers to work on the front-end of web applications and website templates.Creating campaign websites from conceptualization through design and implementation.Responsible for support and training, including:Providing support and training to school and office web content editors, assisting in ongoing support efforts.Writing user documentation/training materials for web content editors.Sending newsletters and other communications/updates to web content editors.Collaborating with Instructional Specialists to create online courses for web content editors and coordinates trainings throughout the year.Setting up web content editor accounts and permissions in content management system.Troubleshooting issues with the content management system and applications that arise on a daily basis.Providing support and training for users with the content management system, staff directory, forms and other applications.Responsible for analytics and research, including:Implementing and maintaining Google AnalyticsCreating and analyzing website usage and traffic reportsDeveloping custom campaign reportsResearching and making recommendations on new web communication tools and technologies.Responsible for design, print and presentation work, including:Designing school websites with unique branding for each school.Developing Photoshop and/or Illustrator designs for websites, banners, logos, and presentations.Creating and managing print design projects (excluding word processing), ensuring consistency with online branding.Providing design and formatting for presentations to enhance visual appeal.Responsible for project Management and stakeholder engagement, which includes:Managing projects, creating project plans, timelines, and coordinating with school and office staff to plan for web system changes, updates, designs and features on a rolling basis.Serving as a project lead between system users and technical staff for the development of new online communication tools and applications. Communicating web best practices to stakeholders during project development and design.Creating requirements documentation and wireframes for the development process.Research comparable products and websites and conceptualize improvements and new features.
