WORKING TITLE: Communications Specialist, Web Producer Student Online Learning GRADE: 21 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, creates, revises, and maintains online courses, manages the learning management system (Moodle) for student online learning, and provides support to online instructors. The work of the class involves writing, editing, reviewing, and modifying content for online publication; using technical skills to create/modify online content; writing user documentation; selection and preparation of graphics for the web; collaborating with online instructors to create content; training online instructors; providing technical support; analyzing, reviewing, and critiquing online communications; creating schedules for summer online courses; conducting research; assuring quality and proofing materials; supporting the deployment of new online materials and technologies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of written English and of best practices for writing for the web. Thorough knowledge of online course development and revision strategies. Strong skills for managing a learning management system and experience developing in Moodle. Considerable knowledge of web publishing or content management systems. Familiarity with communications technologies such as streaming media and Flash. Ability to analyze and improve content to meet publishing industry standards. Ability to collaborate with technical and educational staff to develop online content. Ability to adapt easily to new technologies for online content creation and distribution. Ability to handle multiple projects, react quickly to communications needs, and suggest more effective approaches to production and content packaging. Ability to keep up to date on evolving web communications technologies and editorial approaches. Ability to create and maintain web sites conforming to web standards (W3C). Ability to work well on a team. Excellent analytical, writing, oral communications and human relations skills. Excellent attention to detail and collaboration skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred. College major study in a technology related discipline such as information systems, communications, instructional design, or interactive media. Experience creating online learning sites using a Learning Management System (LMS), such as Moodle required. Experience creating web sites required. Experience with editorial product development and production, online authoring tools, and collaborating with educational and technical professionals required.

Manages accounts for the student online learning management system (LMS)

Provides LMS technical support for online instructors

Collaborates with instructional staff to author content for online courses

Manages and updates the student online learning website

Creates schedules for instructor training and student face to face meetings

Answers parent questions concerning registration and online learning

Maintains and grows knowledge of new technology and tools to continually improve online authoring skills

Monitors online courses to ensure up to date content

Performs related work and other tasks as assigned.
