Summary Description:
Under direction, provides professional quality translation services in a language other than English, such as Spanish, Chinese, French, Korean and Vietnamese in all requested media. Provides translations specifically related to educational agencies. In consultation with the translation technology specialist, works collaboratively with the Public Information Office, Web Services, MCPS TV, and Electronic Graphics and Publishing Services to develop forms, letters, notices, web pages, television programming, and newsletter type publications for use by MCPS schools and offices to engage the non- and limited English speaking community. Must be able to collaborate with and provide training to contract translators as needed.

Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines; occasional night work interpreting for County-wide meetings may be required; will regularly be on-call to interpret Public Comments at meetings of the Board of Education. |
Working knowledge of the best practices of translation in educational settings; considerable knowledge of the programs and services of local school systems; familiarity with special education programs; native-like fluency in oral and written English and one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Chinese, French, Korean, and Vietnamese; ability to assist in evaluating service delivery and customer satisfaction; knowledge of web design and maintenance; working knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Word and InDesign, and how to use them with a variety of languages and writing systems; ability to work effectively with a variety of consumers from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Education Training Experience:Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred. College major coursework in education, foreign language, , or related field. Professional experience in providing professional translations for educational agencies preferred. Knowledge of using computer software, multimedia, and telecommunications or other technology for translation purposes preferred. Successful experience in producing high quality educational translations required. Excellent knowledge and understanding of English and target language grammar and composition. Experience in the development and maintenance of web pages preferred. Previous translation experiences, other combinations of applicable education, training and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:None

Example Duties:1. Provides professional translation services for the Montgomery County Public schools in web, print, and broadcast media in the specified language(s). 2. Assists in the selection and utilization of software and hardware required to provide professional translation services. 3. Collects data and completes required reports to assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of translation services. 4. Under direction, works with MCPS offices, departments and community representatives in the development of new or revised procedures to meet community needs. 5. Provides oral interpretation services into target language and English for the Board of Education and executive staff in public meetings. 6. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
