Summary Description:
Under direction of the director of the department of communication, supports the development and implementation of system-wide communications planning and programs. Provides leadership and vision to develop and manage communication products and services aligned to the strategic plan and is support of district programs. Serves as a communications consultant to other school system offices and Board of Education office to identify and provide appropriate communication strategies to advance school system goals.

Thorough knowledge of best practices to effectively communicate with a broad range of stakeholders and diverse audiences. Knowledge of typical public school organization and administration. Considerable knowledge of communication media including print, video and digital media platforms. Extensive knowledge of standard communications planning tools and tactics, ability to effectively work with a diverse set of administrators, central office staff, school staff, parents, local, state and national colleagues, to implement and monitor projects. Excellent planning, organization, management, communications (oral and written) and human relations skills. Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to working with a diverse staff and requirements.

Education Training Experience:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, with a degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, or other relevant liberal arts coursework and/or equivalent experience in the field will be considered. Masters degree preferred. Four or more years documented leadership experience in assessing communication needs, outreach plan development, project management and implementation required. Other combinations of education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in this position may be considered.Certificate License:None

Participates in cross-functional workgroups representing the Department of Communications.Provides leadership and editorial direction and coordinates production of content for systemwide multimedia products.Collaborates with department/division directors, develops metrics and implements specific instruments to measure customer satisfaction. Analyzes results and makes recommendations to improve communication and customer support based on analysis.Prepares presentations and/or speeches as requested.Understands and applies the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
