WORKING TITLE: Recognitions and Celebrations Specialist GRADE: 24 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Under direction of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Family and Community Engagement, coordinates the planning, implementation and expansion of meaningful engagement with MCPS staff, industry partners, higher education institutions, governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, community based organizations, the community at large and other stakeholders for the purpose of promoting programs and celebrating staff and organizing and running successful recognition events. The specialist combines strong event planning fundamentals with a deep understanding of the educational context and the specific needs of teachers, staff and schools to create impactful and meaningful awards and recognition programs that truly celebrate the dedication and achievements of staff and community members within the education system. Ability to use data to assess program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, strong organizational and project management skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine passion for acknowledging the hard work and dedication of all school system employees. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: None SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Required to be flexible with work schedule in order to attend or facilitate early morning or evening meetings and weekend functions with stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to strategically plan, develop, and manage effective recognition programs from conception to evaluation. Considerable knowledge of effective family, community, and organizational engagement methods. Demonstrated ability to build and grow relationships with community organizations and business partners; actualize vision/programming with potential partners; and scale developed programs. Awareness of diverse cultural backgrounds and ability to adapt engagement approaches to evolving community needs. Knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) organization, policies and regulations and state laws and MSDE regulations pertaining to family and community engagement. Understanding of relevant district policies, human resources procedures, and equitable practices. Capacity to identify issues, find solutions, and adjust strategies as needed. A genuine drive to champion a culture of appreciation and its positive impact on staff morale. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively engage and work with diverse audiences. Competence in organizing and running successful recognition events. Demonstrated ability to prepare written correspondence, documents, and reports. Ability to exercise independent initiative to complete assignments, work in a fast-paced environment, manage time effectively, and identify and resolve challenges effectively. Knowledge of Montgomery County agencies and community organizations; positive human relations skills, organizational problem-solving skills. Considerable knowledge of effective methods of working with partners to develop and evaluate programs. Skilled in developing, tracking, and managing program finances. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Strong relationship-building, collaboration, time management, and meeting facilitation skills. Proficiency in planning, organizing, and leading inclusive meetings.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university required; at least 3 years of school related experiences or in program planning and organization. Demonstrated experience with analytical data analysis and delivery of small- and large-scale projects. Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and managing programs and engagement activities for internal and external stakeholders. Experience with organizational communication, public relations, and community relations desirable. Experience in both education and business environments desired. Documented broad experience working effectively with diverse staff, community and other stakeholders desired. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Researches best practices and assesses current recognition efforts across the school system.Develops a comprehensive strategy and multi-tiered framework for systemwide staff recognition, including formal and informal programs.Defines clear criteria for all recognition programs, ensuring fairness and inclusivity.Manages program budget and explores external funding opportunities.Drafts policies and procedures for consistent implementation.Develops and executes communication plans to promote recognition programs.Manages nomination and selection processes for awards, including committee training.Plans and executes recognition events, coordinating all logistics.Oversees procurement and distribution of awards and materials.Maintains accurate records and tracking systems for all recognition activities.Collaborates with diverse stakeholders (principals, HR, communications, employee groups) to ensure program relevance.Provides guidance and training to school-based staff on effective recognition practices.Partners with Communications to showcase recognized staff internally and externally.Champions a culture of appreciation across the district, highlighting its impact on morale and retention.Evaluates and improves program effectiveness through data analysis and feedback.Prepares reports for senior leadership on program status and recommendations.Continuously refines and improves recognition initiatives based on evaluation and emerging trends.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
