SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Department of Materials Management, assists in the planning and overall direction of a system-wide program for coordinating a computerized central furniture and equipment inventory system. Work of the class involves developing and administering a computer system of inventory control. The system facilitates the receipt, and disposal of fixed assets. Maintaining the database is accomplished in cooperation with principals, program managers, and the Division of Controller.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the principles and practices of supply and property management. Thorough knowledge of inventory and property control systems. Considerable knowledge of microcomputers, peripherals, bar code readers, and automated inventory and property control systems. Familiarity with word processors and computer software. Knowledge of OSHA requirements in the operation of powered industrial material handling equipment. Ability to develop plans and procedures for computerized property and equipment identification and inventory control and to assist in the direction of a comprehensive supply and property management program. Ability to organize and coordinate plans and schedules, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates; ability to maintain effective working relationships with administrators and others. Ability to work under stressful conditions and to meet daily deadlines. Excellent human relations and oral and written communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree required. Bachelors degree preferred. Major college course work in business, finance, transportation, physical distribution or a related field. Considerable responsible experience in purchasing, supply or inventory management, warehousing and distribution, including use of a microcomputer for business management purposes. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of an OSHA approved certification program in the operation of power industrial equipment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to move heavy items (e.g., personal computers, school equipment)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work overtime and nights/weekends as necessary.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in the formulation of current and long-range plans for the Supply and Property Management unit; consults with school principals, area representatives, and department and division directors; maintains and improves a computerized inventory control system for furniture and equipment.

Participates in developing controls to insure proper receipt of equipment; prepares assets for disposal using the method approved by the director of Materials Management.

Maintains purchase order files, inventory adjustment files and physical inventory records.

Develops necessary forms required for deletion and addition to inventory database.

Participates in the development and implementation of security methods for the safeguarding of equipment.

Maintains a clean and safe working environment.

Interviews, recommends, and evaluates personnel, approves time records, investigates accident reports and employee injuries; prepares accident and injury reports.

Investigates and responds to complaints regarding fixed assets records; responds to police inquiries regarding inventory records.

Maintains and coordinates cyclical computer records and physical inventory of furniture, equipment for the school system.

Maintains written procedures for computerized furniture and equipment functions performed in the department; works with controller office in developing and maintaining a computerized inventory control system.

Keeps informed of the latest inventory techniques and technology in the field of property management and inventory control, including application of microcomputers and bar coding technology.

Assists in planning and conducting property control training programs for supervisory and other employees; reviews and evaluates employee work performance.

Prepares reports and recommendations

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
