WORKING TITLE: Data Control Technician II GRADE: 15 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, serves as a team leader in coordinating and controlling the production of computer runs. The work of the class involves technical leadership of a team of data control technicians preparing, checking and controlling daily production runs in the central computer facility. Workers perform data control duties, check the work of and assist other technicians in their tasks, confer with technical staff regarding new or changed procedures and maintain records of daily work. The work requires a good understanding of data processing operations and procedures and the ability to communicate effectively with users. The data encountered are often of a confidential nature, requiring use of data security procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the practices and procedures of computer operations as applied to the preparation and control of production runs. Working knowledge of application job setups using UCCI, ROSCOE, and OS cataloged procedures. Proficiency in the use of Job Control Language. Ability to resolve data control problems and to instruct other staff in data control procedures. Ability to understand and apply detailed procedures. Ability to communicate effectively with users. Ability and willingness to function on different tasks/teams as assigned. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. College course work in computer operations/ workstations, MS Office software, basic server technology, etc. Experience in data control work that would provide familiarity with the operating systems and standards of the MCPS mainframe computer center. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Positions operate computer terminals for sustained periods of time. Daily lifting of boxes of forms and printouts. weighing between 5-50 pounds. Daily reaching and bending to put materials in bins and boxes.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work overtime required by recurring seasonal/priority processing cycle work. Work is subject to inflexible deadlines. Work in the System Wide Safety Programs unit requires the ability to learn OSHA/MOSH recordkeeping and hazard communication requirements.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains operator control master schedule for the team and the related logs on a daily basis for jobs within assigned subsystem.

2. Reviews work at various stages of completion and recommends or implements corrective action if needed to expedite jobs.

3. Assesses impact on individual job and subsystem of errors, delays, or other problems, and provides this information to user, provides liaison with users concerning such matters as data validity, timeliness, and report accuracy; assures that input data from the user and output data after processing are complete and in accordance with established instructions.

4. Reviews subsystem's daily work for purposes of determining problem areas; traces problems and recommends corrective action.

5. Uses terminals to enter, monitor and/or update jobs; assists in tape control updating via terminal entry.

6. Provides special restart/override input for rerun jobs.

7. Participates in the review of new or revised production documentation and attends system walkthroughs as necessary.

8. Teaches/trains others as new systems (jobs) are introduced into the system or subsystems.

9. Continuously monitor and verify the accuracy of employee injury/illness records by interviewing facility staff and working with the workers¿ compensation claims management vendor. (System Wide Safety Programs).

10. Manage hazardous chemical inventory information for all facilities and enter data into state and county online databases (System Wide Safety Programs).

11. May participate in procedural preparations for developmental projects and in planning procedural modifications bearing on work flow.

12. Performs related work as required.
