WORKING TITLE: Data Support Specialist I, Division of Consortia Choice and Application Program Services GRADE: 21 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the general direction of the director, the Data Support Specialist designs and maintains databases for the collection, analysis and dissemination of student/instructional/program data of over 110 regional/countywide programs. Ensures that data and admission process information is readily available to program supervisors, consortia and school administrators. The Data Support Specialist enters data into and extracts data from databases and prepares reports for use by administrators; gathers data as requested by supervisors. This position is responsible for coordinating data systems to support the school assignment processes such as lottery, enriched identification or appeals. This position coordinates communication tools to be used between consortia schools (elementary to middle; middle to high). The class uses software, such as Microsoft Office and Filemaker Pro, to analyze data, develop spreadsheets, reports, and presentations that provide formative and summative data useful in evaluating and improving programs and student placements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proficient in the use of computer applications relative to data collection and reporting. Skill at proofreading numbers and interpreting tables of figures. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, knowledge of standard database technologies management; must be able to learn and apply new software processes as they become available. Strong consultation skills necessary to work effectively with others designing, evaluating and executing data reports required. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Consortia and Accelerated and Enriched Education initiatives. General knowledge of school curriculum. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced setting producing high quality and accurate program reports. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree in computer science, business administration, or human resources preferred. College coursework or certifications in computer science, business administration, statistics, data analysis or other related fields. Training in data systems technology preferred (Synergy, Microsoft, Filemaker Pro, etc.) Experience using word processing, presentation software and spreadsheets to generate reports and to make presentations. Experience with analytical software and basic statistical analysis. Experience with data entry procedures using a PC or other data entry terminal. Progressively responsible experience in a fast paced, high performance office environment. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered in lieu of degree.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Certifications in computer science, business administration, or other related fields preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Position requires sustained operation of keyboard devices.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Designs and maintains databases for the collection of data needed by school, consortia offices or regional/countywide programs.
2. Inputs, downloads, organizes, and analyzes student data from the Student Information Management System.
3. Develops and prints reports on student data.
4. Suggests relationships between data trends, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
5., Maintains current reports containing relevant student data; analyzes, synthesizes and presents information to staff.
6. Responds to data requests from administrators.
7. Designs and conducts presentations of data and associated data analysis to school staff, central office staff, and community groups.
8. Participates in training to remain current on data sources, data analysis techniques, and strategies for developing and conducting presentations.
9. Serves on/interacts with school leadership teams to promote the continuous improvement of instruction.
10. Develops forms, letters, surveys and notices, to gather data as requested by supervisors.
11. In alignment with MCPS core values, effectively supports work around equitable, culturally responsive instruction with the goal of ensuring academic success is not predictable by race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language proficiency or disability.
12. Implements research-based practices that support the mitigation of learning disruption as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
