EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews architects' and civil engineers' construction plans and specifications of new schools, additions, and projects to ensure that correct systems are specified for future expansion or additions and is in conformance with applicable federal, state, local, and life safety construction codes and MCPS standards. Confers with architects, engineers, and contractors of completed schools, additions, modernizations, or other projects to resolve conflicts; develops alternative, plans, and specifications as appropriate. Observes, tests, and evaluates completed jobs to ensure that all site work components are functioning. Evaluates civil designs submitted by engineers to determines if environmental and safety standards are met. Recommends improvements and changes. Manages designated capital improvement projects from pre-design through construction; reviews plans and specifications submitted by contractors for conformance to MCPS standards; attends meetings and works with architects, engineers, communities, school staff, and other interested parties to resolve problems, facilitate communication, and provide information; prepares and coordinates request for proposals and bid packages as required; reviews budgets and approves invoices for payments; negotiates contracts; attends progress and other project meetings as required; reviews schedules for completion and monitors work progress to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains MCPS site work guidelines and standards for contractors. Coordinates and assists in expediting the permit process with other civil engineers in the city, county, and state systems on MCPS matters. Performs related work as required.
