WORKING TITLE: Electronics Graphic Artist, ITV GRADE: 20 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, performs specialized work involving the design and production of video graphics in both 2D and 3D. Creates media-related visual materials for instruction, public presentation, and administrative use. Exercises considerable artistic creativity, personal judgment, and initiative in creating these products for clients and TV staff as needed. Has artistic responsibility for visuals for such items as announcements, program openings, stationpromotions, and video graphics which are used within programs. Must interface with internet to research and download photos, graphics and visuals appropriate for use in TV. Responsible for aligning TV website and cable TV channels with promotional and informational materials. Must be able to edit video for television. Must have strong working knowledge of the following software programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, After Effects, Flash, Dream weaver/HTML, 3D Studio Max, and Final Cut Pro and Non Linear Editing. Must also have flexibility to work on call when needed. Is able to make creative suggestions that help producers and directors better visualize programs and segments. This position works closely with TV production team to help graphically visualize stories and information. Must have 3-5 years professional experience creating original graphics for television.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of design principles, including the processes, techniques and software needed to develop original graphics materials. Strong working knowledge and equipment involved in the production and presentation of visual materials for instructional, informational uses on television. Skilled in design techniques using electronic methods to create contemporary TV graphics for television. Ability to promote effective communication of ideas and information through video solutions taking into consideration subject material, environment, audience, priority, and budget. Must be able to edit video for a variety of different media and must be deadline oriented. Specifically, the incumbent must have the ability to edit, review, select, organize, and create original work and graphics for clarity, consistency, and effectiveness, while expressing ideas effectively. Analyze content for program need and convert into appropriate visual forms, create and/or select appropriate illustrations to enhance the effectiveness of visual materials. Ability to devise, organize, and maintain computer file archiving systems and manage a computer network. Ability to operate and troubleshoot hardware and software problems. Ability to advise staff members on the development of visualized instructional and promotional materials. Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. College major in graphic art or related field. Considerable experience in the creation and production of a variety of visual materials for television and the internet. Considerable experience using the following categories of computer software: Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to create visualized electronic graphics working at computer for long periods of time.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Organizes visuals for effectiveness, impact, and economy, creating original work for style and consistency.

2. Uses various software packages to manipulate sizes, visuals and original graphics.

3. Selects photos and/or draws or selects appropriate illustrations.

4. Uses a scanner and related software to import illustrations or photos for electronic manipulation, or prepares photos for printing by cropping and specifying percentages of enlargement or reduction. Edits video materials for numerous multimedia uses including web, cable and pod casting.

5. Attends workshops and keeps current on new techniques and equipment in the electronic graphic design.

6. Devises procedures and maintains a system for archiving and deleting programs.

7. Installs and maintains media-related software.

8. Installs loads and maintains electronic software on Macintosh computers, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems.

9. Performs related work as required.
