WORKING TITLE: Speech Language Pathology Assistant GRADE: 14 MONTHS: 10
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Summary Description: Under general supervision, implements speech/language programs and activities as planned and directed by the assigned speech/language pathologist. Employees may execute specific components of a speech and language program as specified in an individualized treatment plan composed by the speech/language pathologist. Physical Demands: (Special requirements such as moving heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None Special Requirements: Ability to provide own transportation to a variety of work sites.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: Knowledge of speech/language pathology principles, practices and procedures. Working knowledge of child development. Ability to work effectively with students with disabilities and to carry out IEP activities. Ability to interact cooperatively with parents and other professionals. Ability to work independently and to accept direction. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Education Training Experience:Associates degree required. Bachelor^s degree preferred. Course work in speech/language pathology or equivalent training and experience in the principles and techniques of speech/language pathology. Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities, over a sustained period. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associates degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.Certificate License:None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Example Duties:1. Provides direct speech/language services to students, under direction of assigned speech pathologist. 2. Follows documented therapy plans developed by or in conjunction with the speech/language pathologist. 3. Prepares materials/equipment needed in direct therapy. 4. Documents student progress toward meeting established objectives, reporting progress to assigned speech/language pathologist. 5. Assists the speech/language pathologist during assessment of students. 6. Assists with informal documentation. 7. Conducts speech/language screenings, under direction of assigned speech/language pathologist. 8. Prepares materials for review meetings; collates and prepares student files. 9. Performs related work as assigned.
