SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the principal and in collaboration with the School Library Media Program, installs, operates, maintains and keeps inventory of multimedia technology and demonstrates and trains staff, students, and community users on its proper use. The MST position functions as the: point person for multimedia at school/cluster/consortium activities, including sound, lighting, and radio and TV engineering; facilitator of training for students and staff in the mechanics of multimedia; facilitator for students and staff in the effective use of equipment; technical support for media specialists and other instructional staff; technical and instructional support for electronic/broadcast media in studio spaces, auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, stadium and additional presentation spaces; support for school administrator in the implementation of related multimedia requirements. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to move equipment weighing 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and work from high places. Ability to perform work requiring considerable walking, stair climbing, and moving equipment from room to room. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) MSTs are assigned to an individual high school as their primary place of employment and they should be available for consultation with cluster/consortium schools in MCPS. Ability to work overtime as required by school or MCPS activities. Some positions may require use of personal vehicle to transport equipment and materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administrators in providing technical assistance with multimedia technology. Knowledge of multimedia productions encompassing the areas of: radio, TV, cablecasting technology, streaming technology, audiovisual communications, auditorium, theatre production, video/filmmaking, lighting and sound systems. In addition, can demonstrate knowledge of computer applications related to presentations and non-linear video/audio editing. Knowledge of the construction, operation, and first line maintenance of audiovisual, theatre, radio and TV related equipment used in an educational environment. Aptitude for learning the technical characteristics and operation of new state of the art industry equipment. Demonstrate expertise in maintaining and implementing safe operational practices, procedures and training for the use of multimedia technology and facilities. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience may be substituted for the degree requirement if the experience is consistent with course work described below. Considerable course work and/or combination of formal training in the areas of visual/fine/performing arts, media production, radio/television, theater production or related field. Experience with multimedia equipment and program production, including audiovisual communications and theater production, with experience in an instructional environment or client services is preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associates degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position with state-of-the-art equipment, may be considered.Certificate License:Possession of a valid Maryland Class C non-commercial driver's license or equivalent.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Not all duties assigned are included, nor are all duties listed performed in every office or every day.)1.Supports staff and students with multimedia activities.2.Assists teachers in the delivery of multimedia course work to students.3.Collaborates with staff and students in the planning, staging, and execution of auditorium/theater productions.4.Assists staff and students in the planning and producing of multimedia programs.5.Demonstrates and trains staff, students, and community users on proper operation of multimedia equipment.6.Provides informational and consultant services related to classroom and/or school/cluster/consortium multimedia presentations and activities.7.Assists teachers in the delivery of multimedia course work to students.8.Recommends multimedia program and presentation techniques and equipment to staff and students.9.Works with staff to ensure proper storage and security of school multimedia production equipment.10.Collaborates with staff to produce school policy presentations.11.Prepares and operates multimedia equipment and demonstrates its operation, i.e. recording NBCT lessons, graduation ceremonies, staff meetings, school assemblies, etc. 12.Trains student crews in lighting, connection of multimedia equipment, arrangement of special effects, safety standards, etc.13.Assists in coordinating elements of floor production during rehearsals and live presentations.14.Provides assistance to students, staff, and administrators in the preparation of multimedia and graphic materials.15.Performs technical audiovisual and related instructional equipment services.16.Coordinates the engineering, programming, and production operations of school-based studio facilities.17.Consults with administration and staff for use of the auditorium regarding issues related to sound, lighting, safety, scheduling, etc.18.Plans and designs studio settings, backgrounds, and equipment installations for current operations.19.Operates and maintains essential schoolwide equipment that enhances instructional capabilities and supports programmatic initiatives (i.e. poster printing, lamination, badge printing, student and teacher device management) Contributes to research and evaluation of new TV, radio, and theatre media software programs and recommends programs to administration and instructional staff.20.Prepares materials for graphic multimedia presentations.21.Advises administration and staff of new multimedia and theater ideas/programs/equipment.22.Operates and maintains multimedia-related computer systems e.g., editing stations, sound and light boards, television production, etc.23.May serve as technical director for school based productions and auditorium assemblies.24.Oversees the operation, storage, distribution, and maintenance of a wide variety of multimedia equipment used in schools/cluster/consortium activities.25.Circulates equipment and maintains usage statistics and a current inventory of school multimedia equipment, i.e. cameras, Chromebooks, iPads, microphones, speakers, etc.26.Creates, generates, and distributes user reports on equipment circulation, aging, and replacement requirements and reviews with school administrator.27.Updates multimedia related items and supplies with approval of a supervisor.28.Installs, operates, maintains, inspects, diagnoses, and troubleshoots multimedia equipment in accordance with MCPS policies and procedures.29.Follows current MCPS Drama Theater Safety Handbook policies and guidelines for safety rules and OSHA regulations; collaborates to develop and enforce safety standards for auditorium, TV studios, etc.30.Recommends for purchase job related supplies and equipment in consultation with appropriate stakeholders and supervisor.31.Prepares for ICB events at home school and/or other MCPS schools in cluster/consortium/county. Coordinates with other MSTs to ensure proper coverage of all ICB events at home school.32.Provides excellent customer service qualities when interfacing with community stakeholders.33.May serve as the webmaster or list serve administrator and/ or produce ID badges.34.Performs related work as required.35.Communicates with MCPSTV for guidance around TV studio equipment and troubleshooting36.Collaborates with IT Systems Specialist to triage Help Desk tickets and requests for service
