EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Actively manages the college and career information center by obtaining, organizing, filing, and displaying current materials related to college and career exploration, college assessments, financial aid, and scholarships, vocational opportunities, and local resources for students.2. Collaborates with school administration and resource counselor to develop a schedule for the center to be open and available to students and their parents.3. Assists students in accessing on-line college applications and information. 4. Assists students (and their parents) with college applications, including financial aid paperwork.5. Advertises and disseminates scholarship information; instructs and assists students/staff with computer searches for colleges, careers, financial aid, and scholarships. 6. Provides information and/or applications for PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, ACT, TOEFL, Accuplacer; coordinates registration for MCPS approved SAT preparation courses; assists students with college essay writing.7. Schedule visitations by representatives from colleges/career schools and military.8. Records select college representative visitations for students, parents, and staff.9. Participates, assists, and collaborates with school counseling meetings/workshops.10. Presents individual and group instruction for career/college exploration, assessment surveys, financial aid, and scholarships (e.g. FAFSA, Profile) 11. Plans, organizes, develops, and creates informational material on career events and publications 12. Assists in the publication of school and PTSA newsletters and annual testing bulletin designed to disseminate information to students, staff and community.13. Coordinates and supervises career developing activities/programs.14. Encourages the use of, and assist students with, career interest and other assessment instruments.15. Coordinates speakers, mentors, and shadowing opportunities. 16. Attends faculty meetings and school counseling department meetings relating to college/career resources. 17. Participates in professional development workshops, and in-service training; attends college/career seminars (as directed by supervisor/principal) 18. Recommends changes to the college & career information program.19. Researches and evaluates computerized college software and prepares recommendations to resource counselor.20. Organizes, schedules, and chaperons field trips relevant to college and career exploration including career/employment fairs. 21. Collects, maintains, and disseminates job information (part time, summer, and full time) to students, staff, and the school community. 22. Serves as a school liaison for school and community groups.23. Coordinates and supervises student aides/volunteers in the Career Center. 24. Issues/validates work permits. 25. Maintains a file of student career interests and cumulative student planning folders. 26. Assists with senior surveys and school profiles.27. Performs related duties as assigned.
