Instructional Data Analyst

WORKING TITLE: Instructional Data Analyst GRADE: 16 MONTHS: 10
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: At the direction of school administrators, the IDA assists with the collection, analysis and dissemination of instructional data in elementary and middle schools. The IDA enters data into and extracts data from system-wide databases preparing reports for use by teachers and administrators. Using Microsoft office and proprietary software to analyze data and to develop spreadsheets, reports and presentations that provide formative and summative data useful in evaluating and improving instruction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of elementary and middle school curriculum. Knowledge of MCPS Assessment Program including timelines, performance targets, etc. Knowledge or data analysis techniques and strategies sufficient for analyzing student data to assess the impact of specific instructional strategies on the continuous improvement of teaching and learning. Advanced knowledge of the Financial Management System (FMS) and use of common office equipment. Demonstrated ability to present data analysis results to school staff and to community groups such as the PSTA, including familiarity with root cause analysis. Ability to work with students, teachers and school leadership staff demonstrating these core competencies described in the Supporting Services Professional Growth System: commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication and organization skills, and problem solving competencies. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree required. Bachelors degree preferred. College-level coursework in computer science, statistics and data analysis required. Extensive experience with using current desktop computers and common software including word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software. Experience with exporting data from existing databases preferrably within MCPS. Experience working with children and adolescents, preferably in a school or other instructional setting. Experience using word processing, presentation software and spreadsheets to generate reports and to make presentations. Experience with analytical software and basic statistical analysis. Experience with data entry procedures using a PC or other data entry terminal. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associates degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Position requires operation of keyboard devices and personal computers for sustained periods.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inputs, downloads, organizes, and analyzes student data used for instructional purposes using shared accountability and local school databases.
Develops and prints reports on student data.
Suggests relationships between data trends, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Proficient in the use of computer applications, presents information to administration, staff, students, and community.
Responds to data requests from administrators and teachers.
Designs and conducts presentations of data and associated data analysis to school, school system and community groups.
Maintains and updates class lists and rosters ¿ assists with sectioning of students.
Provides training to administration, staff, students, and community.
Orders supplies and materials using FMS software.
Participates in training to remain current on data sources, data analysis techniques and strategies for developing and conducting presentations.
Serves on/interacts with school leadership teams to promote the continuous improvement of instruction.
Assists in classrooms in emergencies. 13. Performs related tasks as assigned.
