TV Production Manager

WORKING TITLE: TV Production Manager GRADE: 25 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, assigns crews for studio and remote shoots and produces and directs television programs as needed. Maintains MCPS-TV production database. Arranges for maintenance of studio and production supply inventories. Organizes and maintains studio, production areas and production vehicles. Assists in determining production needs and purchases of any new production equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials used in instructional TV programming. Strong working knowledge of media-asset management. Ability to determine best practices for the implementation of projects to staff and to determine workflow for all staff assignments. Thorough knowledge of digital technology including Electronic News Gathering (ENG) and Electronic Field Production (EFP) broadcast quality TV equipment such as studio and remote cameras, studio and remote setups, contemporary lighting techniques and related audio equipment. Ability to write, produce and direct live, live-on-tape single and multi-camera, studio and remote television productions. Knowledge of TV production design principles including set design and construction. Ability to articulate the programming needs of staff via the television medium. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Thorough knowledge of HD, and digital multimedia electronic equipment including nonlinear editing systems, switchers, multiple formats in technology, all video cameras, character generators, monitors, frame synchronizers, A/D and D/A converters, digital IT networking, storage area networks, digital video servers, encoders, basic robotics, scan converters, automated video playout systems, fiber optic transmission systems, and networking within school locations.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered. Considerable course work in TV production. Experience as a television producer/director and writer. Experience working in an academic or training facility and some facilities management experience desirable.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to move television equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Overtime, night and weekend work. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Writes, produces and directs television productions as assigned.
2. Inputs and maintains departmental database.
3. Operates television production equipment including but not limited to digital cameras non-linear editors, special effects generators, audio and lighting boards as productions demand.
4. Manages the use of studio, edit suites and production areas.
5. Maintains studio and ENG equipment and remote production vehicles scheduling routine maintenance.
6. Maintains inventory of studio set, remote production, lighting equipment, videotape inventory, copyright free music inventory and other supplies.
7. Performs related work as required.
8. Gains an understanding of and applies the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
