WORKING TITLE: Multimedia, Producer, Director, Writer GRADE: 22 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs creative and technical work in the planning and production of instructional and informational television programs. Work of the class involves responsibility for various phases of television program production including content research and development, script writing, directing talent, lighting and, still photography, audio, using externally produced program graphical elements, and advanced knowledge of post-production editing. Workers provide functional direction to production and technical crews. Must understand the role of social media in getting information to residents and MCPS staff. Workers exercise considerable independence in carrying out day-to-day operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the practices and methods used in instructional and informational TV programming; considerable working knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of contemporary studio television and remote television equipment. Ability to apply technical knowledge to a wide range of media production problems; ability to articulate the programming needs of staff via television and the web ; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to write original treatments and scripts for clients. Must have thorough knowledge of the operation of broadcast production and nonlinear editing equipment, especially remote equipment. Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills required.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. College major course work in TV production/direction required. Five or more years experience in videography, scripting, editing, and production and still photography. Five or more years experience as a producer/director/writer with experience working in public information setting required. Experience directing live on tape productions and remote ENG or EFT productions; a video resume tape of programs produced and/or directed required. Experience in instructional production required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Must be able to move (using a hand truck) heavy equipment or carry cases up to 35 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Overtime, night work and weekend work required. Employee must be able to work a flexible time schedule depending upon program project assignment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conceptualizes requested television programs and determines their purpose, intended audience, and intended result; creates a presentation concept and program promotion plan; advises clients on appropriate uses of media and television, explaining production process and role of client.; prepares schedule; prepares a plan for audience assessment if desired.

Researches subject and arranges for production design; writes and revises scripts; arranges for videotaping and use of non-copyrighted materials; auditions and casts performers; coordinates various steps of production; scouts shooting locations and arranges for sets, costumes, props, non-camera visual materials, teleprompter scripts and cue cards, and production crews.

Briefs production crews, arranges for and transports equipment, and oversees setup of production equipment; coaches performers and directs lighting, photography and studio operations; directs multi-camera programs; oversees take down of equipment.

Views videotape and creates editing log; records graphic elements, narration, music and special effects; creates edit version of film with closing credits; creates on-line edit master and backup master, produces labels and prepares tape for use.

Attends unit meetings and writes reports.
