WORKING TITLE: TV Program Director GRADE: 18 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, the work of the class involves communicating with programming vendors regarding price information and cablecast rights, creating and editing program guides and schedules for all schools, and coordinating taping, dubbing and satellite downlinks in the master control facility. The work includes previewing, selecting, and purchasing programs for instructional cable TV broadcast. Coordinates the final approval/selection of programming with the appropriate instructional office. The programmer has knowledge of curriculum needs and is able to use software programs, such as Microsoft office, to create program guides and schedules.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of Tiltrac programming and playback system; programming for the two instructional TV channels. Skilled in database programming, preferably Tiltrac system. General knowledge of curriculum and instructional needs. Able to use computer software/systems. Ability to coordinate TV program approval process. Excellent oral, written and human relations skills. Ability to work with students, teachers and administrators demonstrating these core competencies described in the Supporting Services Professional Growth System: commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal communication and organizational skills, and problem solving competencies. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree required. Bachelors degree preferred. Coursework or training in computer technology. Experience with programming the database using the Tiltrac system. Minimum two years experience in a television production facility. Experience in Microsoft Office and other software needed to perform required tasks. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associates degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to respond to problems at any time and to work overtime as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops monthly TV program guides/schedule grids.

2. Coordinates satellite downlinks.3. Coordinates distribution of program guides.

4. Serves as point of contact for vendors and viewers.5. Negotiates cablecast rights.

6. Performs related work as required.

7. Writes new program descriptions for the Program Guides.

8. Programs webcasts in the Tiltrac System.

9. Submits Quarterly Reports on ITV programming hours to the Montgomery County Cable Office and County Council.

10. Attends the yearly National Media Market to preview potential programs.

11. Provides programs to the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Programs (OCIP) for evaluation.

12. Selects programs for purchase based on OCIP's recommendations/ approval and ITV's programming needs.

13. Manages the programming budget.

14. Arranges for program guides to be available to teachers.
