SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under supervision of the Social Service Supervisor, assists in recruiting and enrolling eligible families for the Prekindergarten/Head Start program. Develops, monitors, and provides follow up to implement Family Partnership Agreements (FPA¿s) for Head Start families. M aint ains computer database to track contacts with families and progress towards goals in the FPA, and to generate monthly reports. . Coordinates access to community resources and follow-up. Provides crisis intervention when necessary. Plans and implements parent training sessions in areas such as literacy, violence prevention, and child development. Maintains confidential family records. Provides other support services when necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Coursework in early childhood development, social services, or related field required. Experience in family service or community action programs. Experience working with current office computing hardware and software products required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland noncommercial Class-C driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to handle materials and equipment necessary to conduct parent training sessions. Crisis intervention may require transporting emergency food, clothing, etc., to families. Ability to conduct home visit and meet with families in the community.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides outreach and actively recruits eligible families for the Prekindergarten/Head Start program.

Interprets the Prekindergarten/Head Start program to families by responding to inquiries and disseminating information.

Disseminates community resource information in areas such as GED, ESOL, food, clothing, and shelter, making referrals when appropriate, and providing follow up.

Provides support services to Prekindergarten/Head Start families and conducts home visits when necessary

Plans and implements parent educational activities .

Develops and implements individualized FPA¿s, by identifying family goals based on strengths, developing timetables and strategies for goal achievement.

Conducts Prekindergarten/Head Start registration interviews that include collection of required documents used to determine program eligibility.

Makes referrals to community service agencies and follows up as needed.

Conferences with school-based teaching teams once a month to ascertain the needs of children and families.

Acts as a parent advocate encouraging them to serve as volunteers with the program.

Uses basic keyboarding skills to enter data. Maintains effective record-keeping in order to report accurate and timely information concerning children and families. Maintains files and records

Attends in-service training, conferences, workshops, and monthly supervision

Follows up on concerns from parents and staff

Compiles monthly statistical reports of operations and activities to be used internally and for the division

Performs related work as required.
