Maintenance and Operations Trainer

WORKING TITLE: Maintenance and Operations Trainer GRADE: 17 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, has immediate responsibility for the management of the training school program. Supervises the work activities of building service employees. Administers training in accordance with state, federal, and school system regulations for building service personnel. The work of the class involves providing practical and classroom instructions in basic and proficiency skills, demonstrating procedures, equipment use and care, evaluating worker performance, administering certification examinations, and testing products and equipment. Technical supervision and instructions are received from the building service training supervisor in coordination with school administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, practices, and procedures used in building service; thorough knowledge of regulations and policies applicable to building service; ability to conduct and/or facilitate employee development programs; exceptional ability to communicate; excellent human relations skills; and ability to evaluate and recommend new equipment, materials, and work methods. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Extensive experience in building service techniques. Considerable experience in conducting industrial training to adult audiences. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of current boiler operator's certificate and successful completion of plant equipment operations, air conditioning, supervisory and leadership skills training, and building service manager's tests.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Physical strength and stamina sufficient to demonstrate building service tasks and ability to lift/move material and equipment required in setting up training sessions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Work week to include Saturday.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assigns and supervises the work performance of building service staff.

2. Demonstrates and provides classroom instruction on building service procedures and equipment use and care.

3. Instructs building service staff in basic skills, grounds care, equipment use and care, chemical use, human relations, safety, indoor air quality, governmental and school system regulations, etc.

4. Evaluates participant performance.

5. Administers tests.

6. Evaluates new supplies, materials, equipment, and work methods.

7. Orders building service supplies and training materials.

8. Maintains employee training records.

9. Schedules employees.

10. Performs related work as required.
