Summary Description:
Under direction, plans, develops, coordinates, and implements a comprehensive training program designed to establish, maintain, and/or improve job skills for employees in the division of maintenance and operations. The employee in this class is responsible for formulating and implementing a sufficiently broad training program that immediate and long-range needs of the division are met. Work involves considerable contact with supervisory personnel and other employees and may include contacts with individuals in a student-teacher relationship. Assignments are received through conferences or written instructions affording considerable freedom for exercising judgment in planning work details in three broad areas: basic and proficiency training for all employees; training maintenance and operations staff to assume teaching/training roles; supervisory skills training and mechanical skills training.
Physical Demands:
Physical strength and stamina sufficient to demonstrate building service tasks and ability to lift/move material and equipment required in setting up training sessions.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of industrial training; knowledge, or ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the principles of boiler, air-conditioning, and related plant equipment operation and of building care, knowledge of safety regulations and procedures; ability to determine training needs and to develop and carry through to completion programs designed to meet those needs; train, assist in supervising and inspecting the work of training specialist; ability to utilize computer technology including spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, word processing and email sufficient to train employees, order supplies, process maintenance work orders and communicate with administrative staff; ability to communicate well with people; ability to evaluate new equipment, materials and work methods against established training program and to recommend or initiate revisions when needed; skill in the presentation of industrial training courses; skill in developing instructor ability in others; excellent human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Education Training Experience:Bachelor^s degree required. University major in business or public administration, psychology, or other acceptable field. Considerable experience in developing and conducting industrial training programs, preferably including plant management and plant equipment operation required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor^s degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.Certificate License:None

Example Duties:1. Surveys training needs for maintenance and operations personnel and evaluates those needs against existing programs. Recommends revisions to existing program or establishment of new ones. Develops overall plan for training program.2. In coordination with appropriate administrative, operating, and staff personnel, develops courses or training sessions designed to provide necessary training for maintenance and operations employees, including but not limited to the following areas; boiler and plant equipment operation; building general maintenance, use and operation of new materials and equipment; supervisory training/instructor training. 3. Determines frequency of course presentation, prerequisites for attendance, duration of course, class size, and methods of instruction, reference materials, and course goals. 4. Coordinates schedules, and implements courses or training sessions; arranges location, instructor, resource personnel, and logistical support. 5. Personally instructs in courses or sessions. 6. Evaluates participants in courses or sessions; recommends on future training eligibility for participants. 7. Constantly reviews new material, equipment, and work methods bearing on building service work and assesses impact upon training program and needs. 8. Performs related work as required.
