WORKING TITLE: CPF Worker I GRADE: 06 MONTHS: 10
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under supervision, performs food manufacturing activities that support all MCPS schools. Responsible for proper food handling procedures and the sanitation of equipment and work area cleanliness throughout the work day. May assume additional duties as directed by the manager. Employees in this class receive on-the-training in food preparation and CPS operations but are expected to have some experience in food service work. Nature of work requires sustained moderate to heavy physical effort, operation of industrial food service equipment and continuous standing. The work is performed under the supervision of a CPF Manager or other food service supervisory staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Some knowledge of food preparation and food sanitation techniques, food handling & packaging, and storage procedures. Ability to follow food sanitation procedures. Ability to learn prescribed food preparation methods and school cafeteria operations. Ability to retrieve necessary menu items and recipe ingredients. Ability to comprehend and follow instructions. Ability to communicate with customers. Basic human relations skills needed to work cooperatively in close proximity with others under constant deadlines. Very good mathematical skills are necessary. ability to work cooperatively in a diverse work group is essential. Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to focus attention on the job at hand. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of the ninth grade required. High School or GED diploma preferred. Experience with food preparation techniques and safety procedures. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Valid Class C noncommercial driver's license. Sanitation certification required or obtain this certification during the first six months of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, operation of commercial food service equipment, movement of objects weighing 40-60 pounds and continuous standing. Ability to move dollies weighing up to 250 pounds into refrigerated areas. Ability to work in areas that are temperature controlled Work is in temperature controlled work environments that may require moving from high humidity area to cold areas (55-60 degrees). Work performed is very physically demanding. Pushing dollies loaded with meals weighing up to 250 lbs. into and out of refrigerated areas, stacking tubs of prepared foods and pushing them up ramps into production areas, breaking down pallet loads of canned goods and organizing them for opening, and numerous other activities performed on a continual basis throughout the work day make this position more physically demanding than would be found in a school environment. Ability to stand in one location for extended periods while performing the work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) May be asked to work overtime or weekends. Some positions require use of personal car, with reimbursement for mileage provided.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares hot packs for elementary school program, cook chill items, bakery products, staff ala caret items and sliced meats and cheeses, and field trip sack lunches, etc.

Adapt to changes needs of CPF facility and move to different food prep areas after on the job training.

Operates a variety of equipment and must know how to setup and breakdown for cleaning.

Cleans and sanitizes production equipment and work surfaces. Understands safe food handling practices and is responsible to follow them.

Communicate food safety concerns , questionable food items and handling practices to their manager.

Actively monitor products as they are produced to ensure proper food sanitation criteria is maintained, such temperature, etc.

Sets up equipment and stocks productions lines for production runs.

May act as floor facilitator to insure continuous production flow throughout work shift.

Products produced in the CPF must be completed and distributed to the schools as ordered to allow the schools to meet their academic and educational goals.

Accurately weigh and measure ingredients to insure that recipes are prepared accurately and will yield the proper quantity of product.

Conduct tours for students through the CPF as requested.

Prepares emergency lunches as needed when schools have power failures and are unable to meet lunch requirements.

Operates technologically advanced food service production equipment and must know how to setup, tear down and adjust to meet production needs.

Prepares pre-plated elementary meals, bakery items, cook chill products, staff ala carte menu items, slices meats and cheeses and prepares emergency meals and field trip sack lunches as needed.

Setup production areas to insure that production starts on time and continues throughout the run with minimal disruption.

Accurately weighs and measures ingredients for recipe production.

Train new / fellow employees, operate pallet jacks, help setup catered events, as required.

Sell lunch items to staff members.

Manage flow of cash and pre-paid tickets.

Cleans and sanitizes production equipment and work surfaces.

Floor facilitator to insure product availability throughout the work shift as required.

Monitors output to meet demand.

Performs related work as required.
