WORKING TITLE: Wellness Coordinator GRADE: 26 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Director of Benefit Strategies and Vendor Relations, supports the goals and objectives of the division and performs a leadership role in coordinating the activities as outlined. This position will collaborate with the Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO), the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC), Plan vendors and Union groups to educate and advise employees and retirees of wellness and disease management programs. This position will lead the MCPS Employee and Retiree Wellness Strategy Committee and be an active member of the Joint Employee Benefits Committee (JEBC). Provide guidance and expertise on Wellness Programs. Plans and implements wellness programs for MCPS staff. Conducts wellness and disease management seminars and educational programs throughout the MCPS school system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: This position requires knowledge of wellness and disease and management programs. Ability to prepare and deliver educational programs. Strong communication and human relations skills. Ability to educate and inspire people to recognize the rewards of good health and work toward achieving those goals. Ability to develop and present wellness and disease management programs for small and large groups. Microsoft Office skills required. Knowledge of all of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in health administration/education, wellness, fitness, sports medicine or related programs. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Minimum of 3 years experience in establishing, and promoting, programs to a diverse employee base with documented results. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience presenting informational/training programs to a diverse audience.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland noncommercial class C driver¿s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, movement of objects weighing 40-60lbs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Use of personal car required. Evening and weekend work may be required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design, plan, promote and oversee employee and retiree wellness programs and events.
2. Recommend new wellness initiatives/programs.
3. Plan and coordinate all wellness and disease management education programs and events.
4. Develop and assist in the communications to support wellness plans.
5. Serve as the primary contact with respect to communicating and administering day to day Wellness programs.
6. Coordinate, deliver and support wellness and disease management education program and activities with external partners to maximize effectiveness within Montgomery County, Maryland.
7. Provide regular updates, reports and/or presentations to COO, ERSC Management, JEBC, Union groups and Board of Education on planned wellness events.
8. Performs related work as required.
