CPF Mechanic

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, responsible for the operation and maintenance of all building mechanical and food production equipment in the Central Production Facility (CPF). Ensures a functional, sanitary, and controlled environment is maintained for the safe and efficient handling of food products produced in the CPF. Monitor the food production and mechanical equipment to keep the equipment operational at the Food Service Central Production Facility so that a continuous supply of meals and other food items are produced and available to meet school demands.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of high pressure boiler operation, compressed air systems, heating and cooling, ice builder, and an understanding of the operation of a wide variety of food service production equipment. Working knowledge of food service sanitation principles and understanding of how various equipment and environmental systems impact upon the sanitary quality of the food product produced. Knowledge of control theory and programming skills to operate digital control equipment. Ability to work with multiple interrelated systems which operate in conjunction with one another to support the food production requirements of the CPF. Ability to analyze problems within compressed time frames and take corrective action as necessary. Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings. Skilled in systems operation and the interrelationships among the various mechanical systems in order to make adjustments and minor repairs. Excellent oral communication and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required Training in boiler operation, heating and cooling systems, and general equipment repair. Training in food service sanitation desirable. Three years experience in mechanical systems maintenance and equipment repair. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Boiler training and certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort. Continuous standing and walking, lifting, bending, crouching, and alternating in work area temperatures ranging from boiler room to refrigerate and freezer conditions. Must maintain roof top mounted mechanical equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Must work overtime or weekends when emergency situations exist.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains, adjusts, and performs minor repairs as necessary on a wide variety of state-of-the-art digitally controlled equipment such as high pressure boilers, compressed air systems, ice builders, refrigeration compressors, and a variety of high volume food production and packaging equipment.

2. Diagnose equipment failures and resolve them appropriately.

3. Install bearings, belts, motors, fuses, new parts, etc.

4. Confer with manufacturers' reps and service personnel to help problem identification as necessary.

5. Insure that all mechanical and food production systems are operating efficiently to guarantee compatibility with production requirements.

6. Continuously monitor all food production and mechanical systems to maintain the controlled environment necessary for large volume food production operation.

7. Continuously inspects systems for safe, efficient operation; performs routine maintenance, adjustments, and minor repairs as necessary.

8. Schedule major repairs as necessary with appropriate staff.

9. Conduct preventative maintenance program for all mechanical and food production equipment.

10. Maintain, lubricate and fine tune food production equipment to insure that daily production volumes are met.

11. Research vendors for parts availability and order parts and supplies keeping within budget guidelines.

12. Repair / fabricate equipment parts to maintain / improve equipment operation as required.

13. Perform general upkeep duties in office, building and grounds area including maintaining the integrity of building security and alarm systems, snow removal, weed control, parking lot upkeep, etc.

14. Performs other related duties.
