SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs multi-mechanical maintenance supervisory work in an assigned maintenance depot area. Work of the class involves responsibility for reviewing and assigning maintenance mechanical work requests to the appropriate Team Leaders for completion, supervising the overall operation of mechanical trade functions in an administrative area, coordinating requests for parts and materials, maintaining and completing records on work requests and assisting the depot managers in the administration and management of a mechanical maintenance program. Work activities of employees in this position supervise cluster management of the Team Leaders to include, recruiting, staffing, evaluating, developing and recognizing. Takes responsibility for overall team and individual team member performance. These supervisors have a lesser degree of involvement in the day-to-day assignment of work and supervision of work activities but some higher level involvement in policy and overall program planning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures, tools, and equipment of building mechanical systems, construction and renovation, school equipment, and facilities maintenance. Working knowledge and experience requires a person in the class the same abilities of those positions of Team Leader and Mechanical Systems Technician IV. Ability to effectively supervise shop and field maintenance activities, including the assignment of work and completion of accurate work orders. Ability to make accurate labor and cost estimates, maintain records and complete maintenance related reports. Ability to evaluate maintenance activities and employee performance and to make sound recommendations for the prompt, efficient, and effective maintenance of school buildings. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Coursework or trade school training in HVAC, plumbing, safety, computer applications, supervision or other applicable trades. Considerable experience in building mechanical systems maintenance, construction and renovation, school equipment, and facilities maintenance, including lead or supervisory experience required. . Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to lift moderately heavy objects, climbs, and completes inspection of work and related maintenance activities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to respond to emergency work requirements at any time and to work overtime and unusual hours.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises the day-to-day operation of mechanical trades' functions; assigns maintenance work requests and scheduled preventive work, which have been approved for completion, to the appropriate Team Leaders. Coordinates work activities requiring more than one trade skill; supervises the planning, work scheduling, work evaluation, parts/equipment procurement, and work order/records completion activities of the Team Leaders mechanical trades workers.

2. Ensures the accurate and proper completion of all data required for work orders, and manages records regarding the status of work requests received.

3. Visits schools and job sites to identify/clarify plant and mechanical equipment work requests; to plan major work and resolve problem areas and to inspect/evaluate work activities and completed work.

4. Meets with cluster staff as required and conducts meetings as needed.

5. Assists the area maintenance managers in completing school and job site visits, work planning and evaluation, budget estimates, costs and labor assignments to maintenance projects, prioritizing work requests, employee evaluations and other activities related to administration and management of the area mechanical maintenance program.

6. Participates on the Depot Leadership Team, Maintenance Safety Teams, etc.

7. Facilitates relationships between principals and staff with Team Leaders and technicians.

8. Ensures that all safety standards/requirements are met in assigned set of clusters.

9. Perform related work as required.
