OFFICIAL TITLE: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Technician CODE: 8072 SQ/OQ: Optimal Qualified
WORKING TITLE: MEP Technician GRADE: 16 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, performs various tasks to maintain, repair and troubleshoot equipment and systems. This includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing, predictive/preventive maintenance and facility mold remediation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of electrical and mechanical components of systems. Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, new equipment and technology requirements. Knowledge of standard equipment operating procedures and ability to perform complex system operations. Ability to correctly and safely use tools associated with the HVAC-R, electrical and plumbing trades. Must demonstrate common use of math (including algebra or equivalent), reading, writing, and the ability to communicate clearly. Ability to read, decipher and effective use electrical schematics, various manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints. Ability to use computers, including administrative software applications and computerized maintenance management systems. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the even core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. At least two years in trade-related work under professional supervision. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland non-commercial driver's license (Class C) or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as, extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is more than 70% of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Unusual hours and extensive time demands during summer and other peak periods. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in maintaining and troubleshooting various types of electrical systems, pumps, chillers (central plant systems) exhaust fans and piping systems.
Addresses and remediates indoor air quality (IAQ) concerns.
Performs plumbing, painting, electrical, HVAC and inspections on building systems.
Installs insulation.
Performs ductwork repair and installation as directed.
Works on projects throughout the entire facility, running conduit, pulling wire and connecting devices, using lifts and ladders.
Performs basic equipment repairs and similar duties that require little or no oversight or direction.
Uses electrical schematics and blueprints to troubleshoot and correct problems.
Consults manuals, reads and interprets circuit diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
Repairs and adjusts system components or removes and replaces defective parts.
Displays positive attitudes and practices good work ethics that reflect the mission, philosophy, and goals of the organization.
Provides excellent customer service.
Completes tasks in a timely manner and provide feedbacks to customers, supervisors.
Work performed may include: lighting; minor electrical; hot/cold incoming calls; painting; various touch-up work; minor carpentry; door repairs; restroom repairs; maintenance; IAQ work and construction support.
Performs related work as required.
